Fortnite x Fallout collab confirms our worst fears about Chapter 5 Season 3
We can hear the distant rumbling of mechanical footsteps, and as Epic Games prepares to drop a nuke on Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2, we're sure to feel the 'fallout' in Chapter 5 Season 3. Going under the name of Wrecked, the next season is expected to embrace the apocalypse in a big way.
As we get ready to race into action with a reported Mad Max-themed crossover, this isn't the only apocalyptic adventure making its mark on the map. Given that Bethesda's Fallout franchise is one of gaming's most popular, it was only a matter of time until it landed in Fortnite.
Looks like you'll have to pay for the Fortnite x Fallout collab
Epic Games has revealed an official teaser for the Fortnite collab, showing off the T-60 Power Armor. Unfortunately, this has left us with more questions than answers. While we'd always guessed some form of Power Armor would be here, there's a concerning mention that "some optional items require purchase."
Fortnite has always made its money off the back of microtransactions, and with the brief teaser showing off five Power Armour variants, we doubt you're going to be able to add them all to your wardrobe without stumping up. In particular, the Black Knight-inspired variant looks like it'll cost a pretty penny.
It's possible that at least one version of the Power Armor will appear in the Battle Pass, but with this being Fortnite, they could all be shop-exclusive purposes. We'd hoped that the Power Armor would've been a mythic weapon or worked like mechs, but the teaser seemingly confirms it'll be a skin(s).
New weapons and familiar favourites
There's plenty of good news, as Chapter 5 Season 3 clearly introduces a lot of new mechanics and weapons. Eagle-eyed fans noted there appears to be a Nuka-Cola-themed consumable, which we imagine will give you some sort of agility boost.
Elsewhere, one of the Power Armor suits looks like it had a flamethrower. We're not sure how a flamethrower would work, but the idea of torching your enemies is an intriguing one. It also appears there's a new kind of grapple gun, while there's the cryptic tease of the Minigun's return.
With Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 expected to race into our lives on May 24, there isn't long to wait until we can dive into all this mechanical mayhem. Expect the teasers to ramp up as we prepare to power up our Power Armor. We just hope you've been saving your V-Bucks.
