Todd Howard on what Elder Scrolls 6 will learn from Skyrim & Fallout 4
Even Todd Howard has found it quite comical that Elder Scrolls 6 has been announced for six years, and yet, we're still waiting for an official trailer or gameplay from this Fort Knox-guarded title.
In his latest appearance, Howard joined YouTube personality MrMattyPlays for an hour-long interview, getting into Fallout, Starfield, and, of course, Elder Scrolls 6.
One of the biggest takeaways is that Howard has learned one of his biggest regrets about Skyrim and Fallout 4, promising not to make the same mistake again.

Having been questioned on the support for Fallout 76, following the success of the new Skyline Valley DLC and hot off the back of the new TV Series, Howard revealed that he regretted that they didn't support Fallout 4 and Skyrim for longer.
"We would look back at Skyrim, which we’re still updating to a small extent and there’s all of the creations and mods there -- still a hugely played game, same with Fallout 4. We wish we had supported them longer, and we’re still doing work there."
Already, this regret has impacted the development of Starfield and Fallout 76, adding, "We went into 76 knowing that this is a title that we will support for as long as we can."
Even though the success of Skyrim was undeniably sky-high, Howard has now promised to learn from the mistakes of its post-launch content and vowed to continue creating content for Elder Scrolls 6 for at least ten years after its release.
"As we go into Elder Scrolls 6, with all these games, you got to start now by thinking about a 10-year horizon. How do we support a game for that long?"
"That's the trick," he continued. "As we sit here now our games have never been as popular. We had, last month, 25 million players in our games... Our number one job is 'how are we serving that audience on a month-to-month basis?' So we're taking care of them, while also developing new products."
Howard concluded by saying the plan is 100% to support if for "a long time", but avoided giving any specific details.
Elder Scrolls 6 still eludes us, but Howard also teased that when the game is ready, it will be announced and subsequently dropped quite quickly, meaning after years of pain, we're suddenly going to be getting years - and tears - of joy.
