Fortnite could finally be getting its Five Nights at Freddy’s crossover
It might seem a little early to talk about the spooky season, but for us horror hounds, it's never too early to discuss all things Halloween. While we're sure Epic Games has plenty of ghosts and ghouls in the pipeline for this year's Fortnitemares, new rumours suggest we'll be getting an early treat in the form of a long-mooted collab.
Over the years, Fortnite has become an expert at knowing exactly where its audience lies and what they want to see. Cash in on the success of the MCU with a Marvel season, make bank as Ariana Grande climbs the charts by giving her her own concert, and celebrate May 4 with a Star Wars event.
Still, there are plenty of crossovers we're still dying to see, with horror feeling like an untapped corner of the Fortniteverse. We've seen the likes of Michael Myers and Alien's Xenomorph carve themselves a legacy, but what about Ghostface, Freddy Krueger, and Five Nights at Freddy's?
Fortnite could finally be getting a Five Nights at Freddy's crossover
We've heard plenty about a long-mooted Five Nights at Freddy's crossover over the years, but instead of giving us Freddy Fazbear himself, we got that weird Danger Dux Bundle from 2023, feeling very much like it was the game's own take on FNaF.
Now, famed Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR claims that a full-blown Five Nights at Freddy's collab could be coming in August. The account notes that the Five Nights creator Scott Cawthon has confirmed a special marathon of announcements to celebrate the franchise's 10-year anniversary in August.
It just so happens there's a mention of a mystery collab reveal on August 6, which (you guessed it), is a date that Fortnite is expected to get a big update. While Cawthon will likely be furious that the surprise has been revealed ahead of time if this is the case, we'll definitely be tuning in on August 6.
In the decade since Five Nights at Freddy's release, it's developed a legacy as a legend of the horror game scene. Everything from God of War to Tomb Raider, Halo to Fallout have crossover over into Fortnite, but in terms of horror games, Resident Evil has largely been going it alone in the item shop.
Five Nights was previously mentioned in a player survey of collabs we'd like to see, but with this rumour coming around every couple of months, we'd given up hope. Is it finally Freddy's time, or is the real fright the fact that we've got our hopes up again?
