Star Wars Jedi: Survivor sequel gets disappointing update
The galaxy far, far away, might've just got further away. While Cal Kestis has quickly cemented himself as an icon of the Star Wars world, his anticipated return has potentially hit a major stumbling block. It's hardly Return of the Jedi.
Making his debut in 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal Kestis made his mark as an outcast Jedi survivor of the cataclysmic Order 66. Set at that sweet spot between original and prequel trilogies, Fallen Order and 2023's Jedi: Survivor are held as two of the greatest Star Wars games of all time.
Star Wars Jedi hit by major departure
Click to enlargeStar Wars loves a good trilogy, and while a Jedi: Survivor sequel sounds like a money-making cash cow, the blue milk might not be flowing just yet. After heading up both Cal games as Game Director, Respawn legend Stig Asmussen has announced he's leaving the company.
Asmussen is a big deal in gaming circles, having worked on the first three God of War games for Sony Santa Monica and stepping up as Game Director for God of War 3. He joined Respawn in 2014 and worked on Jedi: Fallen Order as his first title there.
The departure of Asmussen was reported by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier and confirmed in a statement from EA: "After careful thought and consideration, Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures, and we wish him the best of luck."

Click to enlargeEven before Survivor came out, it was Asmussen himself who was hyping the idea of a trilogy, saying, "I always wanted to see this as a trilogy. How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game?" Despite his exit, these plans could still be in place.
Earlier this year, Respawn looked like it was on a hiring spree for Star Wars-related games, giving "a new hopes" to a Survivor sequel. There's also Respawn's mysterious first-person Star Wars shooter, and while we'd like to see it expand the world built by the Jedi series, there's a chance it could simply replace the IP.
With Asmussen now heading for the door, EA has promised that "veteran Respawn leaders will be stepping up to guide the team as they continue their work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor," proving that Cal isn't being cast aside. We can't see a world where Respawn doesn't go ahead with a Survivor sequel, but you might be waiting a while.
