It's time to send in the clones, as our dreams have come true, and Helldivers 2 has finally got a Star Wars mod. Despite a few grumbles and the Arrowhead Games Studios CEO admitting the nerfs have gone too far, the co-op shooter is still going great guns.

As soon as Helldivers 2 came out, we were begging for the team to tackle a Star Wars shooter, and it's easy to imagine Arrowhead creating a game that could bring back the old-school thrill of the Battlefront games. While we're not quite there, Star Wars mods are turning the surface of New Kiruna into Hoth.

Star Wars mods are here in Helldivers 2

Notorious modder ToastedShoes has worked with his mod team to create a fully functioning Star Wars within Helldivers 2. Turning your Helldivers into the 501st Legion, we also get to play as Rex, Cody, and Hunter, living out the Clone Wars as we take on the Separatist Droids.

These mods are just aesthetic, so don't expect any special orders to rescue Anakin and Padmé, but it's unsurprising how well Clone Wars works as a Helldivers 2 reskin. There's been no word on whether Helldivers 2 will go down the Call of Duty route in terms of crossovers, but imagine an official Star Wars collab.

We've already seen Star Wars-esque AT-AT Walkers and Polar Patriots Warbond, so it looks like someone on the design team is a fan of the franchise. Importantly, the hype surrounding the Star Wars mods could spur the dev team into work to add more Star Wars-inspired creations or maybe look into official licensing.

Can you play the Star Wars mod for Helldivers 2?

Unfortunately, ToastedShoes has shattered all our dreams by confirming the mods aren't yet out to the public. Still, he gave us an update and explained it's coming "very shortly." Apparently, the mods "don't work consistently across all planets and difficulties," and he wants to "iron out the kinks before dropping them."

While we're sure to bookmark that one, ToastedShoes did have a gift, confirming that the 501st Legion and individual mods are coming to Nexus Mods. This is far from the modder's first rodeo, and in a separate video, they show a 'ruined' Helldivers 2 that's been modded to include everyone from Buzz Lightyear to Star-Lord. And yes, Thomas the Tank Engine is there.

As we wait for Arrowhead to add more enemy types and hopefully realise it can make bank on crossovers with other major IPs, it looks like we'll leave the hard work to modders like ToastedShoes. All we need now is a Wookiee mod so we can masquerade as Tarfful. Come on, Toasted, make it happen.
