Bungie responds to 'extremely difficult' Destiny 2 Final Shape leak: 'Exercise caution'

Before its usual "This Week In Destiny" blog post, Bungie confirmed that some players were able to access "a portion of Destiny 2: The Final Shape" through the PS5 streaming service, leading to spoilers online.

"We recommend being very careful on social media over the next few days to avoid spoilers," the post says.

"Remember to exercise caution and be critical of potential misinformation. Please be considerate of others and report leaks so players can experience the conclusion of the Light and Darkness saga themselves."

"Thanks to all our community members who have already helped us by reporting leaks and those actively working to prevent more of the experience from being shared before its intended date."

"It's always extremely difficult when our team's hard work is leaked early, but we are still excited for everyone to experience the full release on June 4 together."

Destiny 2's Final Shape expansion launches on Tuesday, but players have reported spoilers have gone live.

According to a post on the Destiny subreddit, an accidental update pushed parts of The Final Shape live for some players via the PlayStation game-streaming service, meaning players were briefly able to access certain pieces of the expansion.

In the now-locked Reddit thread, you can see a timeline of events from user Soracaz, suggesting some of the DLC was playable a few hours ago.

Since then, it appears Bungie has been taking steps, with Sony, to combat information getting out. Naturally, we won't be posting spoilers (I've waited ten years for this!), but it's worth noting that players are reporting some story details, loot information for the as-yet-unnamed Raid via the Collections menu, and cutscenes have leaked. Others say the servers were switched off before players could get past an initial cutscene or the introductory mission.

While some communities may pore over leaks, the Destiny subreddit has seemingly gone into lockdown and is waiting for the storm to blow over. They also seem convinced that the latest version of the game was updated for some players via the PlayStation game-streaming service, suggesting the update went live early on the Sony backend. Some unsubstantiated reports even suggest the same happened with Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
