Amazon’s Fallout animated shorts have a major Season 2 tease

While we'd always hoped a live-action Fallout series would swerve the dreaded video game adaptation curse, no one was ready for Amazon to drop a bomb on the competition quite like it did. Releasing all eight episodes in one go, Fallout was a bingeable blockbuster that quickly became one of Amazon's most-watched shows.

Before the final credits had even rolled, we'd heard about a potential Season 2 to pick up the dangling plot threads of the finale's cliffhanger ending. Amazon has just announced that Fallout Season 2 is officially on the way, but now, a series of animated shorts have teased some major storylines still to come.

Fallout shorts tease big Season 2 storylines

Over on Prime Video right now, there are a series of animated shorts. The big one is called "Welcome Home" and lets us know a little more about the inner workings of Vault-Tec. Here, we get to see Vault-Tec HQ and get a tease of the mysterious CEO known as "Daddy". 

The video is narrated by Michael Esper's Bud Askins, who you'll know as Vault-Tech's Senior Junior Vice President and ends up as a brain in a jar as the overseer of Vault 31. Bud welcomes you as a Vault-Tec manager and gives us a quick tour of the company's HQ. 

One of Season 1's big twists was the reveal that Vault-Tec itself engineered the nuking of the USA, teaming up with other companies and using its vaults as homes for their own experiments. Vault-Tec HQ is apparently the most technologically advanced building in the world and more than likely survived the bombs.

The shorts don't reveal where Vault-Tec HQ is, but with the remnants of the company and its workers still knocking around in the year 2296, we imagine it'll be another important plot point in Season 2. Elsewhere, Todd Howard has confirmed Fallout: New Vegas is canon, which ties into the final scene.

As a reminder, Fallout Season 1 ended with Hank MacLean (Kyle MacLachlan) being abandoned by Lucy (Ella Purnell) and flying off in a suit of Power Armor. The final shot featured Hank looking down on a ruined New Vegas, and with his ties to Vault-Tec, could the HQ be based here?

Unfortunately, there's likely a long wait until we find out what happens next. The wait between TV seasons is getting increasingly longer, and to be honest, we'd be surprised if we saw Fallout Season 2 before the end of 2026. At least we've got plenty of time to keep theorising about where things are heading next.
