Baldur’s Gate 3 lead is already working on something new
You'd be forgiven for expecting that Larian Studios would be relishing in its successes for a while, especially considering it's responsible for the Dungeon & Dragons barnstormer and critical detonator of Baldur's Gate 3.
After all, that's what the rest of the gaming industry seems to play at - look at the ongoing support for GTA V, only leading to a trailer for a new game after a decade of Shark Card sales and content updates. The gaming world hinges on adding, rather than innovating in many cases.
Given Baldur's Gate 3's stature, it would make sense for the team to go all-in on its offerings. But, as Larian's head has recently suggested, the team wants to make something that "pushes boundaries" once again. And now, it looks like they've narrowed down just what it is they’re looking for.
Larian Studios has an idea for its next project
After what appears to be a period of umming and ahhing for the team, Larian Studios' Swen Vincke has taken to Twitter to invite fans into the processes of its next project - and it looks like he's got a plan.
Saying he's "finally figured" Act 1 of his next project, he cryptically teased that he's figured out what "this thing I've been working on needs to be." While he admitted that not all of it will survive until the end, he's set tongues wagging with whatever it is
Vincke then adds, before anyone can get too hyped, that this doesn't constitute an announcement of anything. "Also - it's not what you think and this is not an teaser for an announcement. Just am genuinely excited about where this is going and wanted to share some of my excitement. It'll be quite some time before we talk about this."
Swen Vincke offers advice to fellow creatives
By the sounds of it, this might not be the obvious, suggesting our hopes of Baldur's Gate 4 have been dashed before they started. It seems that Swen has been kicking himself over the process of creating this plan, but he's come back around to it with some pretty nice advice for aspiring writers and creators.
"One thing I learned over the years is that work done on abandoned drafts is never wasted, even if you think the drafts are s**t. More than often, you'll find you can recycle your work once you find the right story for it."
"This type of work can be really frustrating when you're stuck but the important bit is to never give up and remain self-critical, even if the situation looks hopeless :) Creative work is the exploration of a vast search space and it can take time to find the right path."
It's reassuring that creators like Vinke still get hit with the occasional block - and even more that the Larian team is well on its way to making its next project a reality...whatever that might be. Bring it on.
