Even though Bethesda's Starfield might have crashed into a moon somewhere along the way to success, that doesn't mean it can't yet repair and readjust.

Starfield naturally has its detractors, especially as the long-awaited game was dubbed a marker of the outdated function of Bethesda's approach to game design. It has even rocked players enough to make them genuinely concerned for the future of the Elder Scrolls franchise.

Bethesda walks on shaky ground, and players are hoping that it can (somehow) turn things around with a new Starfield DLC, titled Shattered Space. And it looks like that shift could be coming sooner than we had expected.

Starfield's DLC is expected to be coming very soon

The backend of SteamDB appears to be a pretty great indicator for new content set to come to any given game, as a new application added to the Steam page for Elden Ring foreshadowed the reveal of its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Now, it looks like the same could be coming for Starfield.

As shared by Reddit user u/Salmagros, SteamDB has revealed that Starfield has a new addition to its Steam listing. Titled SteamDB Unknown App 2721670, this mystery update has appeared in the Downloadable Content section of the game.

It comes alongside the known preorder bonuses and digital premium edition upgrade, serving as compelling evidence that we could see the full announcement and trailer for Shattered Space very soon because at least something has changed behind the scenes of the Starfield DLC department.

Is Starfield planning more content?

Bethesda has promised that, at some point, it will be opening the Starfield creation kit up to modders, so there is a fair chance that this mysterious update could have something to do with the game entering a mod-friendly era. It could have a separate section in the game's menu, much like Skyrim's post-launch editions.

As Skyrim opened the controversial Verified Creator Program after mod support, Bethesda could also be aiming to launch a similar program for Starfield at the same time. We were told that Starfield would be the next Skyrim and potentially boast a decade of support, so Shattered Space should be the tip of the iceberg.

We're hoping for a Cyberpunk-inspired resurgence, as CD Projekt Red's Phantom Liberty expansion helped the game turn around its tattered reputation. Whatever Starfield's mysterious file is, it hints at an active future for the space-based RPG - now it just needs its fans to shrug off their concerns.
