Fortnite fans have a problem with ‘OG’ Reload mode
Giving us a blast from the past, Fortnite is going all nostalgic with its latest mode. Taking a leaf out of Warzone's book (and already being accused of stealing Call of Duty's ideas), Fortnite Reload feels like an OG season of the battle royale favourite...except it isn't.
Dropping 40 of us onto a familiar-looking map, squads have to make their way around without the use of cars and take out rival quartets. The thing is, as long as one of your team is still alive, there are automatic reboots (for a time). This leads to fast-paced action that feels like we're on Warzone's Rebirth Island.
Fortnite fans aren't happy with OG comparisons
You might remember when Chapter 4 gave us an abridged OG season from November - December 2023. We rattled through the first chapter of the game, with the map slowly evolving and more weapons being added until we reached a modernised version of Season X. It was a hit among Fortnite purists, but Reload is not the same.
Over on Reddit, disgruntled gamers are moaning that Reload has been marketed as OG Fortnite. This is largely the fault of news outlets and streamers, who continue to slap Reload with the OG moniker despite it being something completely different.
For starters, it's a much smaller map that's a hybrid of older POIs rather than being tied to any specific season from the past. Others have noted that the loot is from a mismatch of seasons. Redditor u/joeMAMAkim says, "Some people are really getting mad that it isn't something it wasn't advertised as."
Someone else laughed, "One of my favorite things to do is check how long it takes, after every update, for people to blame Epic for not adding/ changing/ removing features that Epic never even slightly indicated they were going to do so for. It's hilarious how easily people confuse a wish list with a feature list."
Another added, "THANK YOU. I've said this in a couple of comments. Content creators, primarily some YouTubers were the ones that started putting OG in their titles and tags," while someone concluded, "It was very apparent from the trailer that this is a new mode and map with OG flavor. I'm not sure how that could've been missed."
Fortnite Reload is off to a flying start, and while some might be miffed it's not a full-blown OG season, it's arguably better. Leaked concepts suggest that other maps could soon be on the way, while fans are hoping that other POIs from other chapters could find a home. In the meantime, we're quite happy dropping into Tilted Towers and taking out enemies with the Hammer AR.
