The Prestige progression system is back in Call of Duty, debuting once again in Black Ops 6.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Prestige progression system, including how it works and how many levels there are.

What is the Prestige progression system?

Prestige is a classic progression system that resets all of your unlocks back to square one, letting you enjoy the experience of unlocking new weapons, attachments and scorestreaks all over again. The system was first introduced in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but has since been omitted from Call of Duty games in its classic form.

In the rebooted Modern Warfare games, players have entered different Prestige Levels when they reach a certain rank, although they haven’t lost any unlocked items in the process. It’s evolved into yet another number to display on a profile, rather than a meaningful way to change how you unlock new items in the game.

For Black Ops 6, Treyarch is returning to the classic Prestige system. When you reach a certain level (typically 55), you’ll unlock the option to enter a new Prestige. This will reset all of your weapon unlocks, and you’ll need to work to unlock everything once again. It’s not yet known if Prestiging will also take away any killstreaks or perks that you might have unlocked.

You'll also be rewarded with a profile icon with each new Prestige level you enter, showing off your status to other players in the lobby.

Every time you enter a new Prestige level, Treyarch teases that there will be exciting new items to unlock along the way as an incentive.

How many Prestige levels will be in Black Ops 6?

At launch, there will be ten Prestige Levels to progress through. This means you’ll need to reach the maximum rank ten times before reaching a new level called Prestige Master.

Prestige Master will include an additional 1,000 levels to progress through. Apparently, there will be a secret reward to unlock if you manage to make it all the way to the end, but that will require some serious levels of grinding.

All of these levels will be available to climb through when the game launches on October 25, 2024. We don’t know whether additional Prestige Levels will be added with seasonal content, as was the case with Modern Warfare.

This guide is a work in progress and will be updated when we learn more information about the game.
