Standard vs Vault Edition: Which one should you buy?
The Standard Edition of Black Ops 6 comes with basic access to the game. That means you’ll have full access to the Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies modes when it launches on October 25, 2024.
The Vault Edition of Black Ops 6 comes with much more content than the Standard Edition, although most of it is cosmetic:
Content | Standard Edition | Vault Edition |
Price | $69.99 | $99.99 |
Game Access | Yes | Yes |
Season 1 Black Cell Battle Pass | No | Yes |
Hunters vs. Hunted Operator Pack | No | Yes |
Mastercraft Weapon Collection | No | Yes |
GobbleGum Pack | No | Yes |
The cosmetic items on offer can be applied to your weapons and Operators, giving you a bit of bling to show off from the moment you start playing this year’s Call of Duty.
The Hunters vs. Hunted Operator Pack includes four different skins, with two available in Multiplayer and the other two available in Zombies:
- “Oblivion” Skin (Operator Park)
- "Umbra" Skin (Operator Adler)
Here's how they look in the game:
The Mastercraft Weapons Collection includes five Blueprints for the following weapons:
- “Plague Doctor” Blueprint for the AMES 85 (Assault Rifle).
- “Mind’s Eye” Blueprint for the Combat Knife (Melee).
- “Scourge” Blueprint for the Jackal PDW (Submachine Gun).
- “Brainstorm” Blueprint for the LR 7.62 (Sniper Rifle).
- “Unrepentant” Blueprint for the Marine SP (Shotgun).
Here's how they look in the game:
What’s more, GobbleGum is returning from Black Ops 3. These digital confectionaries will give you gameplay boosts when playing the Zombies mode, although their effects have not been explicitly specified just yet.
The Black Cell Battle Pass will apply for Season 1 of Black Ops 6 and usually retails for around $30 if you purchase it separately. It will include over 100 tiers of rewards, including weapons, Blueprints, Operator Skins, and more. You’ll also get 1,100 COD points immediately to spend on the next season’s Battle Pass, plus 20 Battle Pass tier skips to give you an immediate head start on the season.
Ultimately, if you're likely to purchase the Season 1 Battle Pass for Black Ops 6 anyway, then you should consider purchasing the Vault Edition. It includes the Battle Pass bundled in, and for very little extra cost you net yourself some neat cosmetic items that you won't otherwise be able to get.
However, if you're more of a casual fan who just wants to see what the game is about, then you can certainly get away with just purchasing the basic edition of the game.
Pre-order bonuses
If you’re dead set on picking up Black Ops 6 before it’s even out, then you might want to consider pre-ordering to take advantage of some free rewards. These are awarded with pre-orders of both the Standard and Vault Editions.
Here’s what you get for putting your money where your mouth is pre-launch:
- Early Access to the Open Beta
- Woods Operator Pack (for use immediately in MW3 and also in BO6)
It’s worth noting that the Open Beta will be available for anyone to participate in for free. You only need to pre-order the game if you would like a few days of early access.
Game Pass
For the first time ever, Call of Duty is making its debut on Game Pass the day that Black Ops 6 launches. The game will be available for all users that are subscribed to the following tiers:
- Game Pass Ultimate
- Game Pass PC
- Game Pass Console
The only tier that doesn’t grant access to Black Ops 6 is Game Pass Core. If you subscribe to Game Pass, you also qualify for all of the pre-order bonuses listed above, meaning you can get access to the Open Beta early.
Game Pass only grants you access to the basic version of the game. You can upgrade to the Vault Edition for a one-time fee of $30. If you stop paying for Game Pass, you'll lose access to the game. You'll need to either restart your subscription or purchase the game yourself to regain access to your Vault Edition rewards.
