Former LoL and HotS pro player Zuna has died
Former Team Vulcan and Cloud9 player Christopher "Zuna" Buechter died due to a “sudden unexpected medical episode” at 33, according to the brother of the former League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm pro player.
Zuna became known to the esports world in the early days of professional LoL, playing for Team Vulcan and XDG Gaming in the first seasons of North American LCS, surprising the competition with a breakout performance in 2013 that saw the team qualify for the World Championship.
By the end of 2014, Zuna had moved over to Blizzard Entertainment’s MOBA Heroes of the Storm, joining Cloud9 and later Tempo Storm to establish an era of success, winning countless tournaments during his first 12 months with the title.
Zuna’s brother and former teammate Kenneth “Kenma” Buechter posted a campaign on the online fundraising platform GoFundMe to seek support for Zuna’s funeral expenses. At the time of writing, the fundraiser has reached nearly $11,000, just shy of its $15,000 goal.
Various members of the League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm community took to social media to commemorate Zuna, sharing memories of the esports player.
