You don't get to 98 expansions without learning a few things about cool card art, and Wizards of the Coast's Magic The Gathering keeps showing us cooler and cooler creatures, worlds, characters and more with every passing update.
Its next update, the Lost Caverns of Ixalan, is due to arrive in just a couple of weeks on November 17, but if you're looking to prep your deck for some powerful new additions, I'm very pleased to be able to reveal some new cards exclusively here at GGRecon.
For more on the set, its influences, and its lore, be sure to check my preview, but for now, here's an early look at Molten Collapse and Ixalli's Lorekeeper.
- Did you know there's never been a better time to start playing Magic The Gathering?
Magic The Gathering's Lost Caverns of Ixalan card reveal: Molten Collapse
In keeping with the theme of danger in the titular caverns, Molten Collapse appears to show an adventurer's grisly demise.
In terms of its gameplay potential, it can use the new Descend keyword to grow in power, too. Players can use Molten Collapse to destroy a target creature or planeswalker, or destroy a target noncreature, nonland permanent with mana value 1 or less, but Descending (putting a permanent into your graveyard from anywhere) will let you trigger both effects.
Not bad for a card that costs one black and one red mana, and the gorgeous, Mesoamerican full-card art looks great, too.
Magic The Gathering's Lost Caverns of Ixalan card reveal: Ixalli's Lorekeeper
Ixalli's Lorekeeper is a one green mana Human Druid creature with 1/1, but their power is really in the card text which allows Ixalli's Lorekeeper to be tapped to add extra mana so long as it's being spent on a Dinosaur spell or to activate a Dinosaur card's ability.
The low casting cost, plus that ability, is likely to make Ixalli's Lorekeeper a great pick for your next dino deck.
