Minecraft Marketplace Pass slammed as players say it hits a new low
Even though Minecraft remains perhaps one of the greatest games ever made (you can quote us on that), that doesn't mean it won't rustle some feathers every once in a while. Perhaps it was best illustrated by Minecraft Live's recent mob vote.
A revolution began after an uproar from fans demanded that Mojang add all three mobs from the vote into the game after years of being upset by fans. Despite Mojang trying to ignore it, it has grown too much now for it to be a working strategy. As the company announces a brand new scheme, fans are once again up in arms.
The Minecraft Marketplace Pass is here
Mojang has revealed that a brand-new subscription service is coming to Minecraft's Bedrock edition across Xbox, PC, PlayStation, Switch and mobile. The service is called Minecraft Marketplace Pass, serving practically as a Game Pass entirely localised in Minecraft.
The Minecraft Marketplace Pass costs $3.99 per month and offers maps, Mojang-approved mods, and skins galore. It includes over 150 items, but it has been pointed out that the features here are also offered in Minecraft Realms Plus, so players already on that Minecraft subscription don't need to do anything.
Though the price is pretty low and the offerings are harmless, it's still a shame for some. Players have felt that Mojang’' efforts to bring DLC and paid packs of skins and maps to Minecraft's Bedrock edition has overshadowed their commitment to improving the base game. Players aren't happy - and they've made it very clear.
Minecraft fans dunk on the Marketplace Pass
After the mess of the mob vote, players are quicker to leap to arms against Minecraft, and as you can imagine, a subscription service is certainly no different. "We got the Minecraft battle pass before GTA VI,” remarks one comment, as another states, "This is a certified Bedrock moment."
Another states the expectations of a lot of players when it comes to Mojang's work, concluding, "Minecraft devs working 49.5% on April Fools updates, 49.5% on marketplace garbage and 1% on actual updates."
Fans have been shocked by Mojang in recent years, but the annoying thing is that Minecraft is still so brilliant that it makes our complaints seem minor. We'd ask for change if we thought we'd get it, but why would Mojang change their system if it's still working so damn well for them?
