Gamer Manages To Play Demon's Souls On Donkey Konga Bongos
We've seen some great ways to play games on weird and wonderful controllers in the past. Over the years, peripherals like the Samba de Amigo maracas, Resident Evil 4 chainsaw controller, and Katana: The Soul Controller have battled to take top spot for the weirdest alternative controller. However, there are also some crazy options from the unofficial realms of how NOT to play your favourite titles.
From booting up DOOM on a pregnancy test to getting an impressive Call of Duty killstreak using a piano, polishing off The Legends of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with a DJ Hero turntable to turning a Far Cry 5 limited edition deer skull into a controller, we've seen it all.
With the recent release of 2020's Demon's Souls remake, there's been an uptick in inventive ways to slash your way through Boleteria. One player previously used the iconic Guitar Hero guitar to finish the game as a unique take on the trend, but what about playing Demon's Souls using nothing but some Donkey Konga bongos? We think we've just found our favourite alternative.
How can you play Demon's Souls with Donkey Konga bongos?
Posting on YouTube, Super Louis 64 showed off his Demon's Souls/Donkey Konga journey as he conquered the Vanguard Demon and Tower Knight using two pairs of DK Bongos. The biggest problem here is replicating the 20 unique button inputs that Demon's Souls use. It's all easy with a snazzy PS5 DualSense controller, but a bit harder when you have a piece of hardware that's 17 years old.
Super Louis 64 has (sort of) managed to dodge this. Each pair of bongos has five inputs, meaning he's had to sacrifice 10 when playing Demon's Souls. It was no problem losing camera controls for the Vanguard Demon, but the Tower Knight was a little trickier as the boss battle locked onto his feet for the entirety of the duel. Super Louis 64 has promised to continue his Demon's Souls bongo bonanza over on Twitch, where you can watch him advance through the rest of the remake.
For those who need a refresher, the DK Bongos was first introduced alongside Donkey Konga on the GameCube in 2003. The Bongos took the place of your standard GameCube controller as you bopped your way through songs including the Super Mario theme, "We Will Rock You", and even "Lady Marmalade". The DK Bongos became an icon in their own right as they appeared in two more Konga games, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and were supposed to be part of a canned racing game called DK Bongo Blast.
Given the notorious difficulty of the Demon's Souls game - and how most of us would struggle to finish it with a normal PS5 controller - it becomes apparent just what an ordeal Super Louis 64 is undertaking. He's no stranger to making life difficult for himself. On his YouTube, you can see him taking on Fall Guys and Modern Warfare using DK Bongos.
