How to find Dragon's Dogma 2 microtransaction items without spending money
Controversially, Dragon’s Dogma 2 contains some microtransactions. This is unusual in a single-player game, but, fortunately, almost all of these items can be found in the game for free.
So, rather than spending more of your hard-earned money, just follow this guide and you’ll have no need for the microtransactions at all.
How to find all DD2 microtransaction items (or alternatives) for free

Camping kits can be found all throughout the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2. Lots of vendors sell them, but I’ve found them in chests, near campfires, and gotten them as quest rewards. The explorer’s variant is unique to the microtransaction, but there are plenty of good ones available in-game.
Harpysnare smoke beacons
These items are used to get harpies to come to your location so you can take them out. It’s great for clearing out an area you wish to explore, as it will ensure all nearby harpies appear rather than wait in ambush. You can buy these from Montgomery, a vendor in the Checkpoint Rest Town, for 3,000 gold, or find them out and about in the world.
Heartfelt pendant
This is an item you can only get as part of the deluxe edition of Dragon’s Dogma 2 or if you buy it separately as a microtransaction. Fortunately, there are plenty of substitutes you can use instead. All this item does is raise an NPC’s affinity for you when you gift it to them. You can achieve the same effect with a bunch of flowers. These are incredibly easy to craft.
Ambivalent rift incense
Click to enlargeThis changes your main pawn’s inclination to a random one. You can buy it from Neomith at the pawn guild shop in Vernworth, so don’t worry about spending real money on it. It costs 500 RC, and you can earn this passively when people hire your pawn.
You can also farm it from phantoms which spawn around Vernworth at night. They’re most often found in the woods, just off the paths. Light your lamp to draw them toward you.
Makeshift gaol key
These get you out of a gaol, but only once. You can buy these from Dudley in Vernworth, or find them out in the world. They’re single-use, so only use them when you really need to.
Art of metamorphosis
This allows you to change the appearance of either your Arisen or their main pawn. These can also be bought from Neomith at the pawn guild shop in Vernworth for 500 RC. Use it at a barbershop.
Portcrystal
A portcrystal is an item you can place in the world to act as a fast-travel anchor. By itself it does not allow fast travel, you need to use a ferrystone to actually do that. Captain Brant will give you one once you progress the main story a bit, and you can also buy them at the Bay Wayside Shrine in Battahl.
Wakestone
These allow you to revive yourself if you die while out and about, so they’re very handy. An incredibly easy way to farm an infinite amount is to go to Vernworth and search the rift for two very low level pawns. Find two that have the quest to travel with them for a day in return for a wakestone shard, it’s the default quest. Then just wait on a bench for a day, send them back, and you’ll get two wakestone shards. Three makes a full wakestone, so for every three rounds of this process, you’ll get two complete stones.
You can also find wakestones and shards as loot or on fallen enemies, so you shouldn’t be too short on them.
Rift crystals
Rift crystals are earned when your pawn is hired by other players, so it’s a good idea to make sure they’re as strong as possible. Experiment with different vocations, upgrade their weapons and armour, and do lots of quests so that they’re a fountain of knowledge.
You can also loot these from fallen phantoms. These roam the forests outside Vernworth at night and are attracted to the light of your lantern.
