Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLC 'leak' annihilated before it even gets going
While Dragon's Dogma 2 was only just released, some are already turning to Capcom with their begging bowls. The long-awaited sequel to 2012's first game is here, and while it's accused of being a simple graphic upgrade, others are loving this open-world epic.
Capcom has already faced criticism due to accusations of money-grubbing microtransactions, and when you have to pay for fast travel, it's easy to see where these complaints come from. As the team also works hard to fix the game's graphical disappointments, we imagine that a potential Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC is the last thing on Capcom's mind.
Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC leak sounds too good to be true
When Dragon's Dogma was released, it found great success with its Dark Arisen expansion, which was far more than your standard DLC back in the day. Similar to Elden Ring's upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree, Dark Arisen felt like a whole new game with a new dungeon, new weapons, and full Japanese voice acting.
It's rare nowadays that a game as massive as Dragon's Dogma 2 doesn't release a DLC, and given Capcom's willingness to squeeze the base game for every penny, we won't be surprised if multiple expansions are on the way. Over on Reddit, an apparent 'leak' reveals the Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC, titled The Dragon Princess.
According to the OP, The Dragon Princess will be "considerably larger" than Dark Arisen and will add a new country based on Northern Europe. It's a swamp and tundra country called Galacyia (how imaginative) and about the same size as the main game map of Battahl and Vernworth.
A female Arisen has apparently been chosen by another dragon to face off against 10 new boss monsters and 35 enemy types. The poster claims to have seen a giant snow troll, spider/spiked bear, poison wyvern, and Cerberus. The story will only be accessible after the main game, which will be released in November and cost around $29.99.
That's all well and good, but you aren't buying it. With the original source being the notoriously sketchy 4chan and coming from a Reddit leak, one sceptic chuckled, "A fake 4chan leak based on a fake Reddit leak, gentlemen we have peaked." Another added, "Same title from that fake as hell Capcom leak from a few weeks ago. Seems legit."
Pulling the DLC's supposed creatures apart, someone else concluded, "This is what's giving away it's fake to me. Dragon's Dogma doesn't create new monsters, they use ones from mythology or DnD. Spider bear or spiked bear don't really bring anything to mind."
Capcom seemingly teases Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC
After Dark Arisen came out, Game Director Kento Kinoshita confirmed it was based on community feedback and a need for an endgame lore dungeon. It's a major coincidence that Capcom is already asking for your opinions on a potential DLC. A Capcom user survey asks if you want post-release content and how much you'd be willing to pay for it.
Given the overzealous monetisation of the base game, we imagine you disgruntled gamers aren't willing to pay much on top of an already $70 title. Even if The Dragon Princess is a load of hogwash, there are some great ideas in there that Capcom might want to think of stealing. After all, it's already stolen our wallets.
