Dragon’s Dogma 2's ‘Pawn surfing’ is its weirdest meta yet
Those poor Dragon's Dogma 2 Pawns can't seem to catch a break. If being struck by mass executions and being inflicted with Dragonsplague wasn't enough, there's a new trend called 'Pawn surfing.' Sadly, this isn't some fun activity for Pawns to partake in during a day at the beach.
Capcom's fantasy epic is the long-awaited sequel to 2012's Dragon's Dogma. Feeling more like an evolution of the original than a straight-up sequel, the action RPG has been doing well since release - aside from its whole microtransaction scandal. One of its big wins is that players are still discovering its many hidden secrets.
Pawn surfing is Dragon Dogma 2's most violent meta
Over on Reddit, u/Upper_Deku coined the idea of Pawn surfing after they discovered a handy hack with your loyal companions. We're not sure how the OP figured this one out, but if you stand on the edge of a cliff and leap off with your Pawn, landing on them will prevent fall damage to your Arisen.
As long as your tackle animation continues to play, you'll float down and gracefully land without a scratch on you. It's not particularly moral, but thankfully, your Pawn shouldn't take any damage either. Considering the hardship our Pawns face, at least we know they'll remain unharmed.
The OG Dragon's Dogma had plenty of unexpected features, but later in the thread, someone else claims that you can throw your Pawns off a cliff and revive them with an arrow. Fantasy games like Dragon's Dogma 2, Baldur's Gate 3, and Elden Ring are full of these neat tricks, and finding them is all part of the fun.
Pawns need to form a union
The Steeled Foundation skill forms a shield to protect you from fall damage, but it might've just been replaced. Of course, there are many of you who won't be going full 300 and launching Pawns off the edge of a cliff. You could simply not hurl yourselves off massive heights and avoid fall damage the normal way.
Some were shocked by these actions, with one concerned player saying, "Wait a minute, it is you who the pawns refer when they say they suffered a lot on their journey isn't it." Another added, "Yes officer, this man right there..." and a third joked, "If this guy's here, who's running hell. Good lord."
Pawns already have it bad enough in Dragon's Dogma 2, but if abandoning them at even a whiff of Dragonsplague doesn't satisfy your cruelty, you can always use them as a human trampoline and hang ten with some Pawn surfing.
