All weapons in Hades 2 ranked from best to worst
Choosing the best weapon for you in Hades 2 will be the key to your success, as each one offers its own unique playstyle that defines how you take down enemies.
While the right weapon for you in-game will likely be the one that you feel most comfortable using, there are some that prove stronger than others - making fights with bosses like the troublesome Hecate a whole lot easier.
All weapons & how to unlock them
Weapon | How to unlock |
Witch's Staff | Starting weapon |
Sister Blades | 1x Silver |
Umbral Flames | 3x Cinder, 3x Silver |
Moonstone Axe | 15x Silver |
Argent Skull | 1x Bronze, 2x Glassrock (after reaching the surface) |
Some of the required materials can be a bit tricky to get ahold of - but you'll eventually get your hands on them and be able to unlock every single weapon. Some are, inevitably, better than others though, so here's the order in which I'd recommend using them from worst to best:
Hades 2 weapons ranked worst to best
#5: Witch's Staff
While the Witch's Staff isn't a bad choice, it's still the starting weapon and remains rather limited in its output. It deals decent damage and has plenty of speed to keep you on the move, but it's relatively underwhelming compared to some of the other options.
#4: The Umbral Flames
Using the Umbral Flames is probably the safest way to play Hades 2, as it lets you create distance from the many dangerous enemies that plague every room you enter.
While I'm personally not the biggest fan of projectile playstyles, it's undeniable how strong the Umbral Flames can be when used correctly - although it does lack quite significantly in damage as a major tradeoff.
#3: The Argent Skull
You might expect the last weapon you unlock to be the strongest, but there are a few downsides that make this weapon not quite as effective as the other options.
The rounds that you're shooting from the skull deal massive explosive damage that can decimate targets and bosses alike, but you'll both need to aim well and retrieve the ammo to shoot more. This can be a pain in chaotic moments where you just need that one last shot - but if you can get in the rhythm then the Argent Skull is certainly a force to be reckoned with.
#2: The Moonstone Axe
There are admittedly few weapons cooler than a big axe, and that thankfully translates well to Hades 2. While it does force you into a much slower and more deliberate playstyle compared to what you typically expect, the Moonstone Axe more than makes up for this with its sheer power and is deadly in the right hands.
It is especially powerful in its range, as the huge sweeping attacks can hit a wide range of enemies, ensuring that you're clearing rooms as quickly as possible. Furthermore, its special is also incredibly strong - giving you the ability to block damage which makes bosses a whole lot easier.
#1: The Sister Blades
My personal favourite weapon in Hades 2 is none other than Sister Blades, bringing hyper-fast close-range combat to any enemy that dares to face you. Its biggest strength might be its downfall if you're not careful, but once you get the hang of its rhythm then the risks are more than worth the rewards.
Getting the right collection of boons can only make this build stronger too, and you'll want to focus especially on ones that boost your damage in close range, boost damage to backstabs, and increase your attack range.
I'd recommend trying out all of the weapons if you can though, as you'll never know which one works best for how you want to play otherwise.
