Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Director gives insight on 'that' scene
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated titles on the roster of upcoming titles in 2024, and gamers are likely on the lookout for any news or sliver of information that'll tide them over until the game drops.
Even as someone who hasn't played many of the franchise's entries, my ears even perk up when hearing the words 'Final' and 'Fantasy' next to one another in a sentence. And now, that's even more the case, because one very memorable scene that even I know of was recently discussed by the remake's Director.

Aerith's big scene
Yep, we're talking about the scene with Aerith. In an interview with Game Informer, Director Naoki Hamaguchi spoke a little bit about what gamers can expect to see in the second part of Final Fantasy 7's remake.
Speaking on the original 1997 title (yep, it's that old), Hamaguchi said: "Beginning with the original Final Fantasy VII, when we had started working on it, it was already decided from the get-go that 'life' would be the central theme."
For Rebirth, we're following a specific part of that story found within that now-iconic title: "... We are following Cloud and the party's journey all the way up to the Forgotten Capital where we will seek our Aerith's fate; that is the landing point for Rebirth," they said in the interview.
One of the most interesting parts of what they said in the title has to be this, though, which indicates that a story beat surrounding Aerith may very well stay intact:
"I believe that the person who dies should not return in this title, and that is what we did with the original." Hamaguchi also adds that they believe the team was able to bring both a new emotion and feeling into the scene: "I do believe that the way we have depicted it brings about a new emotion and a new feeling for both players who have played the original Final Fantasy VII and newcomers."
Either way, I'm going to need to go and watch that original scene so that I can prepare myself for what Square Enix has in store for us all.
