Slitterhead is a brand-new IP revealed during The Game Awards 2021, and headed up by Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama. Its presentation was part scary and part surreal, with the trailer certainly making a mark on viewers and Silent Hill fans.

For all the latest information on the upcoming Slitterhead, here's our breakdown of everything we know so far, including any gameplay details and trailers.

Slitterhead gets a release date

Slitterhead will launch on November 8, 2024, as revealed at Summer Game Fest 2024. The trailer also shows gameplay that includes combat, switching bodies, and, uh, big tentacles where people's heads should be.

All Slitterhead trailers

The only trailer we've seen for Slitterhead so far is its reveal trailer. It shows off some interesting scenes that have many of us puzzled by the game's direction. The trailer begins with some text that states: "In 1999, Keiichiro Toyama chose horror as the genre for his first directorial work. Silent Hill was released to the world. In 2020, he went independent and founded Bokeh Game Studio. And he came back to face a new challenge in horror."

Evidently the new challenge is Slitterhead, and as the trailer continues we see a scene of a man walking down an alley before a woman steps out of a door, catching his attention. She then suddenly morphs into some horrific monster as her body contorts, and her bones elongate, casting a shadow on the wall of her true appearance.

We then get a montage of scenes over a thumping soundtrack, as the body horror monstrosities attack people and cause chaos across the streets of the city this game takes place in. It appears to be more action-focused than the Silent Hill games, and tonally it seems surreal - but it's got our interest.

What do we know about the Slitterhead gameplay and story?

While the trailer didn't show us much in terms of gameplay or story, in his interview with IGN, Keiichiri Toyama elaborated a little on the game. "I can't go into a lot of details yet," he stated, "but I can tell you that this story will be an action-oriented adventure game from a third-person perspective. However, the game will include many new mechanics that have not been seen so far in other games, so I think it will result in a unique experience."

Toyama did reveal a little about the game's setting, claiming it's in a fictional Asian city that is inspired by 1980s and 1990s Hong Kong, and mentioned a large aspect of the game will be trying to identify which people are secretly monsters, which will have ramifications in the gameplay and story.

Narratively, he didn't give much concrete to go on, but did talk about the themes, stating, "the game will explore life and death and the process of decay throughout everyday life, so inevitably some of the developments and visuals will be quite shocking." Continuing, "Although it is a horror game, we aim to make a game that is entertaining on a wide range of levels, with a story filled with mystery and new types of action gameplay."

Do we know what platforms Slitterhead will launch on?

The platforms Slitterhead will launch on are currently undecided, but Toyama did include that they "hope to reach as many players as possible while maintaining the essence of the game." Based on this, we expect Slitterhead to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and select PC storefronts.
