Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has added some new features fans of Remake won’t be accustomed to, and Party level is one of them.

While it may seem confusing at first, it’s a relatively simple part of overall character progression in the game, and one you’d ultimately better not ignore.

What is Party Level?

Your Party Level reflects the bond your teammates have formed on their adventures together. Mechanically, it’s used to gatekeep progression in the folio tree, and it’s a great example of a game’s themes and mechanics working in unison.

At each Party Level, there are set skills and synergies available to Cloud and the gang via the folio screen. The higher your Party Level, the more you’ve got access to, and the features gated off behind higher Party Levels are typically stronger and more useful.

On its own, the feature doesn’t do anything. All it does is give you access to more skills; you still need to actually unlock those skills with SP.

How to raise Party Level in FF7 Rebirth

The easiest and most consistent way I’ve found to raise Party Level is doing Chadley’s little intel missions. Each Lifespring, unique fiend fight, or protorelic hunt grants five party XP. This may not seem like much, but when you consider just how many are available, you’re passing up a lot if you skip these.

Another surefire way to gain Party Level is just by going through the main story. After certain missions or challenging boss fights, the party will gain some XP. Again, it’s a perfect blend of theme and mechanics. Rebirth has a renewed focus on the relationship between Cloud and everyone else he travels with, so it makes sense to mark bonding moments with XP.

A third way to raise your Party Level is to do side quests. These focus on the relationship between Cloud and one other member of the party, so this helps to deepen your bonds and increase your overall Party Level, helping you to unlock more skills.
