Ouch, it sounds like Netflix's much-hyped Resident Evil series could be going down in a ball of flames - much Albert Wesker after he's been tossed into a volcano. Away from the Milla Jovovich-led movies that (somehow) churned out six outings, we've had the disastrous Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Sadly, 2022 might not be the one for the Resiverse.

While we've always known Albert Wesker as the smirking villain hiding behind a pair of shades, Netflix's Resident Evil promised to deliver something different with a more sympathetic version of the character. Boldly going where the Jovovich movies didn't dare, Resident Evil was set in canon with the games and was a sequel to 2021's Resident Evil Village. Even if it wasn't perfect, there was plenty of potential.

Will Resident Evil Get A Season 2?

According to Small ScreenResident Evil Season 2 is looking "very unlikely." A source apparently close to Netflix told the site: "Second season [of Resident Evil] is looking very unlikely at the moment. Still no official decision on it yet. [The] show’s fate is hanging by a string."

We'll admit we've never heard of Small Screen and can't verify whether there's any truth to this, but to be honest, Resident Evil getting the chop wouldn't be unexpected. Over on Rotten Tomatoes, Season 1 has an audience score of 27%, which makes it one of the worst-reviewed Netflix shows of all time. On IMDb, it's scored just 3.9/10 and is at the bottom of the barrel in terms of the site's ratings.

It's a shame, because Paola Núñez's Evelyn Marcus gave us some serious lesbian CEO boss b*tch energy. The scene of her performing Dua Lipa's "Don't Start Now" lives rent-free in our heads. There are plenty of those championing Season 2, and you only have to look at Twitter to see those already calling the show a cult classic. Unfortunately, that's not enough to save it from the Netflix gods.

What Would've Happened In Resident Evil Season 2?

Probably destined to become one of the great what-ifs alongside Alcatraz and Flashforward being cancelled after a single season, Resident Evil's demise would leave a lot of cliffhangers. Namely, is Evelyn still alive, will Jade Wesker save her daughter from her devious sister, and when the F was Lady Dimitrescu going to appear?

Dabb has previously told Polygon how he wanted the villainous vampire to appear further down the line, with Resident Evil developing deeper ties to the games. He also gave the nod to Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine - suggesting there was a multi-season plan. Given that Season 1 ended with young Billie and Jade heading to find Ada Wong in Japan, it would've presumably brought the fan-favourite into this world. Netflix hasn't injected Resident Evil with the T-virus just yet, but we imagine it's shuffling closer to the grave by the day.
