PGL announces Major analyst talent with notable exceptions
PGL has announced its analysts for the Copenhagen Major kicking off on March 17. With a compact desk, the selection is necessarily missing notable names from the Counter-Strike 2 community.
The invited members
Only four analysts will be present for the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen as an announcement by the organiser revealed. The broadcast talents Jacob "Pimp" Winneche, Mathieu "Maniac" Quiquerez, Sudhen "Bleh" Wahengbam, and Jason "moses" O'Toole received the call-up.
They had been actively participating in broadcasts around the scene in the game's recent competitive history. "Six Majors as a player! Nineth Major as broadcast talent," Pimp shared his excitement on Twitter, also pointing out that it will be a special one for the Dane with the first Major in Counterstrike history to be hosted in his home country.
Bleh also shared his appreciation, pointing towards the unique experience of this particular event: "Working any Major is a privilege. And the first CS2 one, even more so." A desk host or other broadcast talent, such as shout casters or stage hosts have not been shared yet but are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Notable names missing
Throughout its history, PGL has used a smaller staff of broadcast talent. During PGL Major Antwerp in 2022, the company also limited its desk selection to four analysts, only two of which will be returning for Copenhagen in Pimp and Maniac. Alex "Mauisnake" Ellenberg, who had been part of the last three Majors in Antwerp, Rio, and Paris will not be returning this time.
Moreover, the absence of Janko "YNk" Paunović has also been noted. "Already seeing some interesting names left off the talent announcement for the CS2 Major.
"Worried about the rest now, if its budget-related then fair enough but without deeper context its hard to not question already seeing YNK not on the desk after his year," wrote Esports Play by Play Caster of the year Lauren "Pansy" Scott on Twitter.
Ynk himself also commented on the situation, sharing: "Congrats to all the guys who'll be in Copenhagen for the Major, we're in for one hell of a show! As for me, not much to say right now except express disappointment for not getting the call up yet again."
Industry names flooded the comments, with players and fellow broadcasters alike expressing their disapproval. During the rollout of information prior to the approaching event, PGL has also shared the schedule for the opening matches, with Cloud9 vs Ecstatic kicking off the action on the mainstream at 1 pm CET on March 17 and Eternal Fire vs The Mongolz on the second stream during the same time window.
