Xbox fans demand refunds for ‘unplayable’ Baldur’s Gate 3
It's safe to say that Baldur's Gate 3 has dominated the headlines in 2023 for all the right reasons, being widely praised as one of the greatest RPGs of all time.
After taking home Game of the Year over titles like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Larian Studios have knocked it out of the park and left players craving more from the amazing world it's crafted.
Unfortunately, one set of fans is a little less impressed with their BG3 experience, specifically those on Xbox. Some players have gone as far as claiming the fantasy epic is completely "unplayable" on Microsoft's console and "should be removed from the Xbox store."
Xbox players slam "unplayable" Baldur's Gate 3
Although Baldur's Gate 3 was a little late to the party when compared to its PlayStation counterpart, the Xbox community isn't happy with its release. They've taken to the r/gaming subreddit to voice their frustration, even demanding a refund from Larian.
According to them, the title doesn't allow you to "save your progress properly on Xbox," and as a result, players "are losing dozens of hours of playtime."
"This game needs to be removed because it is not playable in its current state, how can they sell a game that doesn’t even work properly? (On Xbox)," said one disgruntled gamer.
Some even believe that the devs owe those affected a full "refund," arguing that the game shouldn't have been released in its current state. One comment concluded, "You know, asking for a full refund at least isn't out of line for anyone that's experienced a lot of problems playing this.
"Personally I played BG3 on PC, didn't encounter any serious issues while playing and had a total blast doing it. But if someone else bought this and can't even safely save their games, that seems a pretty damn good reason to expect a refund." There is nothing stopping you from asking for a refund if you aren't happy.
Other fans claim it's Microsoft's fault, not a Baldur's Gate 3 issue
Not everyone has their pitchforks out, though, with some taking to defend Larian from the backlash. According to a few fans, it's not the fault of BG3 and instead, it's Microsoft's "save cache" that's causing the problems.
"It's because of an issue with Microsoft's save cache, so not Larian's fault - Don't believe me? A quick Google shows this has happened with several other games on Xbox."
As Baldur's Gate 3 relies so heavily on saving your progress, this is an issue that needs to be resolved as soon as possible. However, given it's affecting multiple titles, it's unlikely Larian has the answer. Instead, Microsoft will have to deal with this one.
