Bethesda and Starfield had an awful lot going for them at launch - and frankly, they still do. While there's plenty of fun to be had across the cosmos of Todd Howard's passion project, so many pitfalls have prevented it from (so far) entering the upper echelons of Bethesda's incredible work.

Space travel has come under fire as perhaps one of the weakest elements of the game, demanding that players wait through loading screens before they can so much as look at the planet they want to go to. But, it looks like the team behind the game is looking into a new means of getting about.

One Reddit user has shared the Starfield patch notes for the latest update in the game's subreddit, and to pretty much everyone's surprise, Bethesda has appeared to comment on it.

The comments on the post were clearly so intense that the company felt the need to appear, letting fans know that there is plenty more to come from the game, including some hugely anticipated features.

"Hey everyone, first, we read all the feedback here and greatly appreciate it and all the time and thought you put into the game. This small update was to mostly address the 'pet-asteroid' so many asked about following our last larger update, and we wanted to get that out before the holiday," says the post.

Promising that the team has been "hard at work" on many of the issues that have been flagged, the dev promises an update coming in early 2024. This will tackle a "large number of 'in-progress' quest fixes as well as FSR3 and XeSS." That's all well and good, but we want to know what else you've been cooking.

Along with explaining their work on the current patch, Bethesda has revealed that it's working on some additions that fans reckon should have been in the game in the first place.

"We’re also hard at work on many of new features you asked for, from city maps, to mod support, to all new ways of traveling (stay tuned!),” they say. "These will be rolling out with a regular cadence of fixes and updates we expect to have roughly every six weeks." Someone joked it'll be the Halo Warthog.

We have no idea what these new ways to travel will include, but we hope it's not Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's space horses. It's certainly good news, and it's pretty likely to bring some players back to the stars - now we have to hope the updates don't come so late that people stop caring.
