Fortnite just killed off Yoda… in the middle of its Star Wars event
To quote the little green dude himself, "Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not." Still, that won't take the sting out of the fact that Fortnite has just killed off Yoda. Worse yet, it's in the midst of its Star Wars event.
While May 4 has been and gone, the Force is still strong in Epic Games' battle royale favourite. We can hear the warblings of Chewbacca, are chipping away at our 'Lando and the Empire' quests, and are once again talking Darth Vader to get our hands on his lightsaber. Sadly, Yoda is missing out on this one.
Fortnite removes Yoda Back Bling
Epic has disabled the Yoda Back Bling, all thanks to an apparent issue where certain emotes caused the game to crash. In particular, the Zoidberg Scuttle emote was crashing Fortnite. Epic originally said it was aware of the issue and was looking into it, but has now disabled the Yoda Back Bling.
Epic has also confirmed that the Dagobah Luke skin and Disassembled C-3PO Back Bling have been pulled from the shop. It's fair to assume that the C-3PO Back Bling might be suffering similar issues, but it's unclear why Luke has been nixed. Also, only the Yoda Back Bling has been completely disabled, with the others still in use.
Given the popularity of Yoda and the fact it's the first time he's appeared in Fortnite, there are obvious grumbles. Over on Reddit, one critic raged, "Why tf did they remove the yoda back bling from the shop? It’s a starwars event, why remove a starwars item? I was gonna buy it when I got paid this Friday."
Return, I will
If you've been saving your V-Bucks for Yoda, it's a frustrating situation for those who wanted to secure a Victory Royale with that Star Wars legend on their back. Still, Epic is sure to add him back into the shop pretty quickly - as long as it can figure out what the problem is.
Fortnite's Star Wars event is scheduled to end on May 14, so there's still plenty of time to practice your skills on the battlefield. While it's a shame that Yoda has been Force-choked (for now), here's hoping he'll soon be back and giving us some sage advice.
