There is still hope for Baldur's Gate 3 DLC
Thanks to the massive success of Baldur's Gate 3, it is not surprising that many players are already thinking about whether or not there will be any DLC on the horizon.
Despite the game's massive scope meaning that the vast majority of players haven't even come close to completing the base game yet, the question of future content which will allow fans to reimmerse themselves in the world has come up many times.
While nothing has been confirmed, and Larian has stated there is no DLC currently in the works, developers said they would like to someday create more content for Baldur's Gate 3.
Baldur's Gate 3 devs said DLC is not impossible
Larian founder, Swen Vincke has not ruled out the possibility for Baldur's Gate 3 DLC according to recent interviews with the developer.
In an interview with Dungeons & Dragons' Todd Kenreck, Vincke acknowledged the difficulties that would come alongside expanding the game, particularly when it comes to the level cap.
D&D level 12 introduces new spells and elements that would make Baldur's Gate 3 much more complicated.
Speaking with PC Gamer at the start of August, Vincke said: "[Level 12-20] adventures require a different way of doing things, in terms of antagonists you're going to have to deal with, which require a lot of development to do them properly, which would make this much more than an expansion in terms of development effort. A lot of D&D adventures are sub-level 12 for precisely that reason. So it sounds like neat, easy expansion material until you start thinking about it and it's not as easy as one would imagine."
However, in his interview with Kenreck, Vincke said that while it would be hard to add DLC it is not undoable.
"Well, you could do different things in [the DLC], so it doesn't have to be necessarily at the end of the game," Vincke said. "There's different ways that you can do that."
When would DLC become available?
There is no information regarding when any DLC for Baldur's Gate might become available and Vincke shared in his interview with PC Gamer that they had not started working on anything at this stage.
Whether DLC does or doesn't arrive for Baldur's Gate 3, it's clear that a lot of work has gone into the game and with hundreds of hours of gameplay, there is plenty of content to keep players entertained in the meantime.
