Friday the 13th: The Game is back to challenge Dead by Daylight
We love a good asymmetric horror game, and while we're currently spoiled for choice with the likes of Dead by Daylight and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, let's pour one out for the OG. Friday the 13th: The Game helped kickstart the trend in 2017, but before it could reach DbD's heights, the servers were shut down.
A larger dispute between Friday the 13th writer Victor Miller and movie director Sean S. Cunningham led to the game's premature axing. But now, like Jason Voorhees rising from the depths of Camp Crystal Lake, Friday the 13th: The Game is back from the dead.

Despite servers reverting to peer-to-peer matchmaking in 2020, Friday the 13th: The Game limped forward until it was delisted from Steam at the end of 2023. The game's Steam page is still up, although you can't buy it. The game will finally be scrubbed from existence at the end of 2024, but now, it's found another way to live again.
We thought it was an April Fool's joke, but in a twist no one saw coming, a group of fans has confirmed Friday the 13th: The Game is rising from the grave in 2024. The dedicated group is working on Friday the 13th: Resurrected, a free-to-play title based on a modded build of Friday the 13th: The Game.
The team promised a release date reveal on April 15 and gave a tease of what's to come. Alongside dedicated multiplayer servers, you'll be able to enjoy a much wider roster of characters thanks to fan-made content. So yes, we're looking for that Jason X DLC.

Click to enlargeBefore legal wranglings took a machete to Jason, there were grand plans for the game to go back to the future. Devs had been planning both a retro NES version of Jason and a DLC based on Jason X. Even though the 2001 movie is hardly the franchise's peak, imagine taking on Uber Jason on a map of the Grendel spaceship.
We know Dead by Daylight has everyone from Freddy Krueger to Child's Play's Chucky, but there's a Jason-shaped hole in our lives. While the lawsuit might've nixed the idea of Jason landing in DbD anytime soon, it hasn't stopped Friday the 13th: Resurrected from potentially murdering the competition.
Even if some feel the asymmetrical bubble has burst (we're looking at you, Evil Dead: The Game), the sheer buzz for the return of Friday the 13th: The Game proves those critics wrong. We'll have to see what gets revealed on April 15, but either way, we're excited to butcher some camp counsellors.
