The next Pokemon TCG expansion is Twilight Masquerade, featuring the trading card debut of the Legendary Ogerpon and other Kitakami-region creatures like Sinistcha and Bloodmoon Ursaluna.

Following in the footsteps of Temporal Forces and its Paradox Pokemon, the Twilight Masquerade expansion puts the focus on Scarlet & Violet's Teal Mask DLC with Ogerpon as the star of the show. Here's everything you need to know about the new set.

When is Twilight Masquerade released?

The Pokemon TCG: Scarlet & Violet - Twilight Masquerade expansion will be released on May 24, 2024.

This might come as a surprise to some collectors, as mainline Pokemon TCG expansions are usually released a few months apart - but this one is arriving just two months after the Temporal Forces expansion.

How many cards will be in Twilight Masquerade?

It's been confirmed that there will be over 160 cards in the Twilight Masquerade expansion.

The total number of cards in the expansion will likely be much higher than this, though, as there will also be 21 illustration rares, 11 special illustration rares, and 6 hyper rare gold etched cards to discover alongside the base set.

The Twilight Masquerade expansion will feature the debut of Ogerpon, with five cards available to discover:

  • Teal Mask Ogerpon
  • Teal Mask Ogerpon ex
  • Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon ex
  • Wellspring Mask Ogerpon ex
  • Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex.

To coincide with the debut of this Legendary creature, a new Trainer card named Ogre's Mask is included in the expansion. Using this, you can swap out any Ogerpon ex card in play with an Ogerpon ex card from your discard pile, letting you switch masks just like in the Scarlet & Violet games!

This set will also introduce the Legendary trio Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti to the Pokemon TCG. Other creatures from the Kitakami region that will appear in the expansion include Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex and Sinistcha ex (and presumably Poltchageist).

GGRecon was given the opportunity to exclusively reveal three new cards from the expansion, including a lovely illustration rare variant of Eevee, which already seems like it's going to be the chase card for many collectors. You can see those in the image carousel below.

Alongside these new Pokemon, Trainers can look forward to plenty of fan favourites including Greninja, Dragapult, and Magcargo. These three Pokemon will appear as Tera cards, with another four unannounced Tera cards expected in the expansion.

Finally, there will be six new ACE SPEC cards, adding to the ones that returned in Temporal Forces. These are powerful cards that can turn the tide of battle, but you're only allowed one per deck, so you'll need to choose wisely!

Here are all of the confirmed products that will be released as part of the Twilight Masquerade expansion:

  • Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Box (includes 11 Booster Packs)
  • Elite Trainer Box (includes 9 Booster Packs)
  • Booster Bundle (includes 6 Booster Packs)
  • Booster Display Box (includes 36 Booster Packs)
  • 3-Pack Blisters (includes 3 Booster Packs and Snorlax or Revavroom promo)
  • Premium Checklane Blister (includes 1 Booster Pack, 1 Coin, and Kingdra or Porygon-Z cards)
  • Checklane Blister (includes 1 Booster Pack, 1 Coin, and a Pupitar or Toxel promo)
  • Single Booster Packs (includes 10 cards)

If you're purely looking to open as many Booster Packs as possible (and you have the money to spare), then the Booster Display Box pretty much always works out the cheapest price per Booster Pack.

Personally, I'll be getting the Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Box as I usually do; I just love opening them and checking out all of the extra items inside, including the Pokemon Center stamped promo card.
