Which Apex Legends Are LGBTQIA+?
There are a number of Apex Legends LGBTQ characters in the ever-growing roster of playable legends, but which ones fall under that category and what is their backstory? Respawn Entertainment, the developers of Apex Legends, have consistently championed the LGBTQIA+ community, implementing diverse backgrounds into their already deep character descriptions.
On top of learning more about the characters in the game, it also offers players who are in the LGBTQIA+ community a chance to be represented in-game, which isn't seen as often as it should be. Here's all you need to know about the Apex Legends LGBTQ characters.
Gibraltar (Gay)
Gibraltar's sexuality is canon - it is referred to on his character bio on the official Apex Legends site, and refers to an event which changed his entire life. His bio is as follows;
"However, he only began to understand the value of protecting others when he and his boyfriend stole his father’s motorcycle, took it on a joyride, and got trapped by a deadly mudslide. His parents saved them, and his father lost an arm in the process. Gibraltar has never forgotten that sacrifice and has devoted his life to helping those in need."
Losing his boyfriend pushed Gibraltar into a life of helping and protecting others, and made him who he is.
Bloodhound (Non-Binary)
At the very advent of Apex Legends, developers wanted to make one thing clear, and Respawn community manager Jay Frechette told Rock, Paper, Shotgun that Bloodhound is “non-binary, or at least non-specified, in terms of gender.”
This sentiment has been echoed by Bloodhound's voice actor, Allegra Clark, several times. In videos posted on her TikTok account, Allegra cites that she was told by Respawn when recording the voice lines that Bloodhound was non-binary.
Loba (Bisexual)
The high-society thief's sexuality has been all but confirmed by the writers, especially when Senior Writer Tom Casiello replied to a fan's question regarding a voice line of Loba's seemingly suggesting she was bisexual.
Mirage (Bisexual/Pansexual)
While this one hasn't been confirmed, Apex fans definitely think Mirage is bisexual or pansexual. The majority of this suspicion appears to have been confirmed by the Season 6 quest comic, in which Mirage states "...my already standing-in-quicksand sexuality issues".
Valkyrie (Lesbian)
Canonically, Valkyrie is a lesbian, adding to the diverse characters already in the game. Her Legend bio states "she had her ladies, her liquor, her love of the sky", and in an interview with MoonLiteWolf, Valkyrie voice actress Erika Ishii and Apex Legends senior writer Tom Casiello revealed that Kairi Imahara (Valkyrie) is a lesbian.
Fuse (Pansexual)
Walter "Wally" Fitzroy, aka Fuse, the legend added to the game at the start of season eight, is pansexual. His official character bio states that Fuse is a "ladies' man, man's man, and all-around manly man," which was later confirmed by Sam Gill, writer on Apex Legends.
Seer (Pansexual)
While there's no mention of Obi "Seer" Edolasim's sexuality or identity in his official bio, many players have wondered if Seer is possibly gay or trans. As it turns out, he's actually pansexual too, alongside Fuse. Amanda Doiron, Lead Writer at Respawn, tweeted that Seer "sees to the heart of people and doesn't limit himself to a specific gender". Of course, this is much more vague than outright saying he's pansexual, but she followed it up in a later tweet.
Catalyst (Transgender)
Introduced in Season 15, Catalyst is the first confirmed transgender Legend on the roster. As noted in her bio, she went through her transition in her "teenage years" but was supported by her friends who enjoyed "crystal readings, moon rituals, and personal witchery."
Catalyst also spoke on her transition in her Stories from the Outlands video, revealing that "I feel like the whole world has opened up, now that I’m myself."
With 25 playable characters in the game and six confirmed to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community (eight including Mirage), that's some healthy representation that we love to see. To get a grasp on how well these characters are performing in the meta, check out our Apex Legends pick rate tracker.
