We've spent too long pining over Titanfall 3, so we might need to cut our losses. The game series was a huge deal for FPS fans at the time, serving as perhaps the most innovative to hit the market during the era of Call of Duty and Battlefield's war for the modern shooter crown.

Even though Titanfall 2's sales were decimated by it being squeezed in a week between its two greatest rivals launching new titles, it has remained a critically beloved game. Most agree that the franchise always deserved better than it ended up getting.

While we now have Apex Legends to somewhat carry the torch, it's not quite the same as the sequel that players have been desperate for. Although the door to the Titanfall universe stays open, we might have to wait even longer for the game we're not even sure exists.

Salt in the wound, eh? Following waves of layoffs that have reverberated through Electronic Arts, Jeff Grubb has claimed on the Game Mess Mornings podcast that in the wake of plenty of games getting canned across the company's development teams, one title still stands.

Grubb claims that Steve Fukuda, writer of the Titanfall games and a contributor to the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare titles, will be leading a brand new game set in the universe that houses Titanfall and Apex Legends. He says that "the game as it stands today, as far as I understand it, is a Titanfall game. It’s set in the Titanfall universe."

The actual layout of the game itself is still a mystery, so even with the statement from Grubb implying a game that won't star a Titan pilot as a protagonist, we're going to have to wait and see what's in store for us.

It's good to see that there's some indication that there's a Titanfall-adjacent game in the works, especially as 2023 brought the news that a single-player game set in the universe of Titanfall and Apex Legends was canned.

Codenamed TFL and known lovingly among fans as Titanfall Legends, the game was expected to be a big deal, but sadly, it never came to light. We can only hope that this upcoming Titanfall game won't suffer the same fate - even if it won't follow the formula of the franchise in the way that fans want it to. It'll be a treat regardless.
