You Can Finally Play As Thanos In Fortnite
To quote the big man himself, "I am inevitable". Years after Thanos first "snapped" his way into our Fortnite lives, the Mad Titan is back and wielding the Infinity Gauntlet in a big way. This purple Homer Simpson is barging his way into Epic Games' battle royale bloodbath with the Thanos Cup and his own in-game skin.
You could technically play as the balding brute in May 2018's Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup, but this time, he's for keeps. With Josh Brolin's depiction of Thanos cementing him as the big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the epic Avengers: Infinity War meant he was everywhere back then.
Finding the mythical Infinity Gauntlet on the map would transform you into an OP machine. Sadly, the match ended, and you weren't able to play at Thanos after that point - until now.
When is Thanos coming to Fortnite?
The easiest way to get the Fortnite Thanos skin will be through the game's shop. Like previous Marvel skins, you can stump up the V-Bucks to buy Thanos and his Avengers: Endgame back bling. Players will be able to dash around with that golden gauntlet and six Infinity Stones on his back.
Kicking off today (June 21), the Thanos Cup gives players a chance to get their gauntlets on his skin before everyone else. The Duos tournament lets you and a friend take on rival teams in up to 10 matches. The top-performing team in each region wins the bragging rights and allows them to laud it over these mere mortals as early. A small amount of participation will earn you a gnarly-looking Thanos spray.
If you don't want to take part in the Thanos Cup, he'll be around to buy from June 26 in the Fortnite shop. There's no exact price, but similar bundles have cost around 2,000 V-Bucks.
Why is Thanos coming to Fortnite?
While some might think the timing is a little off, there are a number of reasons why now is the perfect time to drop Thanos back into Fortnite. For starters, the tie-in Batman/Zero Point crossover comic is coming to an end, meaning there's a gap in the market for crossovers. There's the Superman skin coming further down the line, but we're still a way off seeing the Man of Steel.
Added to this, the theme of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7 is "Invasion" and things are decidedly sci-fi right now. Thanos' helming from the planet Titan makes him a great addition to this space-themed season. Unfortunately, he's not dropping into the game via a spaceship.
Finally, let's remember those tantalising theories that a Loki skin is on the way to tie into the Disney+ series of the same name. Fortnite boss Donald Mustard promised there were more Marvel crossovers over the horizon after the Marvel-stuffed Chapter 2 Season 4, so it looks like he's delivering on that front. Now that you know when Thanos is coming to Fortnite, we're sure this is going to be a "gem" of a skin.
