Fortnite Has 'Many Years Of Marvel' Collaborations Planned In-Game
Get ready to "marvel" in the glory of more comic book capers as Epic Games has just confirmed Chapter 2 Season 4 is just the start of a whole roadmap of Marvel crossovers.
Back in August, few would've thought the tease of Thor's hammer and a tie-in comic about Galactus wanting to swallow the Fortnite map would turn into something so big. Now, as we near the end of Nexus War, rest assured the story will continue in some form.
While the live-action Marvel counterpart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going great guns and preparing to usher in its next era with Phase 4's Black Widow - coronavirus permitting - it sounds like the Epic crew wants to continue cashing in on those spandex-clad supes. That's right, Nexus War is just the start of the MFU (Marvel Fortnite Universe).
Speaking to Eurogamer, Epic Games Studio's Worldwide Creative Director Donald Mustard teased what's next for the battle royale brawler as part of the "This Week in Marvel" podcast. Discussing more Marvel-centric seasons, Mustard confirmed there are already "many, many, many years" of Fortnite seasons planned.
Doubling down on his commitment to Marvel, Mustard explained, "The reason we called this season Nexus War is that this is just the start of lots of stuff we have planned for many years of Marvel integration.
"This is not the end, this is the beginning. We thought a really good POV-style character which could set this up [earlier this year] was Deadpool, kind of fourth-wall breaking. And then Cap in July, building up to this moment...".
Referring to previous Marvel crossovers, 2019 tested the water with a tie-in for Avengers: Endgame. Also, who could forget when dancing Thanos was all the rage and arguably took Fortnite to viral status? As Mustard mentioned, there have also been the likes of Captain America and Deadpool popping by for a chat. All of the above is Ant-Man-sized compared to the smorgasbord of skins and stories that landed with Nexus War.
News of more Marvel comes off the back of November's "Last Laugh" bundle that will swap Iron Man and the rest of the Avengers for some DC-themed content. It's not quite on a par with Nexus War, but we do know Joker and Poison Ivy skins will be dropping into the shop.
As for Marvel, will everyone be over the moon we're getting more? Comic books aren't for everyone, while Epic has already been accused of leaning too heavily on the popularity of Marvel. Elsewhere, there were recent critiques over the size of Season 4's Battle Pass and the constant grind to try and reach the top tiers.
Like it or lump it, Marvel is here to stay in Fortnite. With this in mind, it hints that the end of Nexus War won't quite be the showstopping "endgame" some have anticipated. Just like the MCU has become famous for its post-credits scenes, should we expect a similarly tantalising tease when the credits roll on Galactus' dastardly plan?
