How to unlock & use Stratagems in Helldivers 2

Stratagems may seem like an optional feature of the Helldivers 2 experience, but they are key to completing objectives, defeating enemies, getting out of tight spots, and having a good time.

You'll want to learn how to unlock new ones and make use of the ones you equip to have the best chance at winning games.

How to unlock Stratagems

Stratagems are unlocked using the Ship Management screen on your command ship.

From here, you just need to select 'Stratagems' and then purchase the ones you want with Requisition, which is a free currency earned from missions.

How to use Stratagems

To use your Stratagems, you first need to equip them in the Loadout screen before you drop into a mission.

Once you're down a planet and ready to get started, do the following:

• Hold CTRL on keyboard or L1 on DualShock to open the Stratagem list
• Follow the inputs by pressing the corresponding buttons on the WASD keys or D-Pad
• Throw the marker to call down your Stratagem

Whether it's a support weapon, a piece of gear, or an airstrike, it will land where you throw the marker, so make sure you're not directly under whatever lands.

Most Stratagems have a cooldown period or limited uses, so you'll need to wait to use them again. 

It's also worth noting that some of the effects on planets can change how your code inputs work, such as reversing them.
