Ashika Island gets the can from Warzone forever, but you don’t seem to care
Resurgence has completely taken over Warzone. The small-map combination has eclipsed that of Urzikstan and its tedious slow pace.
However, with the addition of Rebirth Island and Fortune's Keep to join Vondel in the Resurgence pool, one map has been left to rot: Ashika Island.
As seemingly the least-popular map, Raven Software has now taken the decision to permanently relieve it of its duties and retire Ashikia Island forever. Not that many people care...
Ashika Island to be permanently removed from Warzone
Due to the popularity of Rebirth Island and Fortune's Keep, it looks like Ashika Island has been discarded like Andy to Woody when Buzz arrived.
"Ashika Island, crafted by our partners at High Moon Studios and introduced to Warzone in February 2023, will soon see its last week in Modern Warfare III," Raven Software said on X (formerly Twitter).
"We're directing our focus toward other map-mode combinations for upcoming playlist updates," they added.
This decision has clearly resulted from the rotational map-mode combination system deployed into Warzone over the last two months. Ashika Island even got a temporary sabbatical, which was designed to monitor player retention rates and playlist popularity.
It seems Ashika Island just didn't cut it for the mass player base anymore.
Ashika Island doesn't have many funeralgoers
Maybe this is exactly why Raven Software is deleting Ashika Island. Very few people actually care that the Japanese-inspired castle is being laid to rest.
Heading to the feedback on the decision on Twitter, few fans actually expressed sadness at the decision and only wished that Vondel would follow it out of the door.
Some fans were sad to see it go, but only because they hoped that the map would have undergone surgery and received a complete makeover to become lighter and more "cherry blossom." Alas, that didn't happen, so good riddance.
Ashika Island will stay for one final week of gameplay, though. It will officially bow out at the end of Season 3 on May 30.
