Best Genshin Impact Lyney build: Artifacts, weapons & more
Genshin Impact Lyney is the first five-star from the Fontaine region introduced in the big Genshin Impact 4.0 update. This magician works alongside his siblings to entertain the justice-focussed people of Fontaine, and wields a bow and a Pyro vision to dole out damage.
His attacks can delight and amaze you, but also deal out huge damage and summon cute cats. Truly, he's living the dream. Let's get stuck into this Genshin Impact Lyney build guide, so you know what to do with him if you pull him in the game.
Genshin Impact Lyney abilities
Lyney's basic bow attacks actually have him yeeting cards at enemies, which is a nice animation, but the damage on them isn't the main attraction of his kit. His main method of attack is going to be his fully-charged charge attacks, which will not only deal damage, but also create Grin-Malkin Hats, which will taunt enemies. Along with that, if his health is above 60%, he'll drain some to get a Prop Surplus stack.
These stacks then power up his elemental skill, which unleashes AoE Pyro damage, restores Lyney's HP, and causes any Grin-Malkin Hats on the field to explode. The damage is upgraded for each Prop Surplus stack you have too.
Finally, his burst has him turning into a Grin-Malkin Cat and allowing him to run around, causing Pyro damage to fall down on enemies near him, and then you'll explode into some AoE Pyro damage, and summon another Grin-Malkin Hat.
His passive talents let him track Fontaine-specific resources on the mini-map, but also cause him to do more damage to enemies affected by Pyro, which can go up even more if you've got up to three Pyro teammates including Lyney.
Genshin Impact Lyney weapons
Lyney's best weapon will be The First Great Magic, which not only has a very good crit damage substat, but also substantially upgrades his attack when the wielder is on a team with three people of the same element, once again including Lyney. You can see the theme of mono-pyro here, can't you?
Outside of that, you're generally going to want to look at weapons that have crit damage substats. The reason for this is that Lyney not only gains crit rate as he ascends, but his best artifact set also grants crit rate. The problem here is that using a weapon that also has crit rate makes it very easy to go over 100%, which is wasteful.
Genshin Impact Lyney artifacts
Lyney's best artifact set is going to be the Fontaine set, Marechaussee Hunter. This set gives him a normal attack and charged attack damage buff, but also grants extra crit rate whenever his HP increases or decreases. It's not hard to have him both lose and gain health, so this should be very powerful.
Outside of that, you can go for things like two-piece Crimson Witch for fire damage, two-piece Gladiator's Finale for attack, or even four-piece Waderer's Troupe, which boosts charge attack damage for bow users.
Stat-wise, you're generally going to want to keep an eye out for attack, Pyro damage, and crit damage.
Genshin Impact Lyney teams
Because Lyney's innate kit and his best-in-slot weapon both want you to use a mono-pyro team, it's no surprise that his best teams are going to be mono-pyro as a result.
You'll want to have him and Bennet for sure, and then ideally, Kazuha and Dehya. It's novel seeing Dehya as a recommendation here, but her interruption resistance is actually fairly good, and she can generate a good amount of energy for the on-field Lyney too.
You can also swap Dehya for other defensive options like Zhongli or Layla, but doing so will mean you'll likely want to swap Kazuha for Xiangling. You can play around with the team members, but the core is three Pyro members, and then one utility slot, basically.
