Here's when you'll be able to catch Necrozma in Pokemon GO
The fearsome Legendary Necrozma has been confirmed for Pokemon GO, but it's not ready to catch just yet - here's when it's set to make its debut.
Known as the Prism Pokemon in the Pokedex, Necrozma is a Psychic-type creature that originates from the Alola region. Niantic first teased its Pokemon GO arrival back in 2022, and now, two years later, we finally know when it's going to be available to catch!
Necrozma release date in Pokemon GO
Trainers around the world will be able to encounter Necrozma during the global Pokemon GO Fest 2024 event that takes place from July 13 to July 14, 2024.
Necrozma will appear in Raid Battles throughout the event and you'll need to defeat it before you'll get a chance to catch it. I'd recommend powering up your Bug, Dark, and Ghost-type Pokemon ready to counter it!
If you're able to attend the in-person GO Fest 2024 events in Sendai (May 30 - June 2), Madrid (June 14 - June 16), or New York City (July 5 - July 7), you'll be able to encounter Necrozma before the rest of the world.
What do we know about Necrozma?
Necrozma is a Psychic-type Legendary that first appeared in Pokemon Sun & Moon on the Nintendo 3DS. It was available as a mysterious post-game encounter, but it played a much bigger part in the sequels Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon where it served as the main antagonist of the story.
Necrozma also has three powerful forms that were introduced in Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon:
- Dusk Mane Necrozma (Psychic/Steel-type)
- Dawn Wings Necrozma (Psychic/Ghost-type)
- Ultra Necrozma (Psychic/Dragon-type)
Dusk Mane form could be obtained by fusing with Solgaleo, while Dawn Wings form could be obtained by fusing with Lunala. Its final form, Ultra Necrozma, could be obtained by entering battle in one of those two forms while also holding a Z-Crystal called Ultranecrozium Z.
It's currently unknown whether Necrozma will have access to these three forms when it makes its debut in Pokemon GO, but we've already seen alternate forms like Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre in the game, so it's probably a case of when rather than if.
There are other Pokemon that can take advantage of fusion in the mainline games, like Kyurem and Calyrex, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll get to see this feature added to the game soon!
That's everything we know about Necrozma so far. Visit our Pokemon GO homepage for more guides like the latest Raid Bosses, the next Spotlight Hour, and all the other events you've got to look forward to this month.
