Massive Epic Games breach potentially leaks Final Fantasy, Turok, and Red Dead
Hooray, it's leak day. Like the FTC vs. Xbox court document reveals or the massive Nvidia GeForce Now leak of 2021, we love having the surprise spoiled ahead of time. While the Nvidia leak will go down in history as arguably the most monumental of all time, let's not write off 2024's Epic Games DB fumble.
As with any leak, we need to take things with a pinch of salt. However, there's nothing like the hype of seeing someone leak a Bloodborne PC port or a new Uncharted game. It seems someone might've gotten inside the inner workings of Epic Games' database and is spilling its biggest announcements.
Epic Games DB reportedly hit with massive leak
First shared on ResetEra by user MondoMega, an apparent Epic Games DB leak is filled with a slew of unannounced titles. It comes from pretty much every major publisher, with the leak being broken down into sections for the likes of Bethesda, Square Enix, and Sony.
It's important to note a lot of these are placeholder codenames, while others like Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered have already been released on the surface. Despite the third-party Epic Games database and price monitoring website launching on June 11, it's seemingly been overtaken by some external force.
As reported by Press Start, Epic Games has released the following statement via email, and the whole site is currently down. Although unconfirmed, this could add more credence to the rumours: "We released an update tonight so third-party tools can’t surface any new unpublished product titles from the Epic Games Store catalog."
Cracking the code
Getting to the good stuff, an extensive Reddit thread has tried to crack the code about what's to come. The big hitters include the long-rumoured Final Fantasy IX remake and Final Fantasy XVI PC port. The former is under the codename of Momo, and on the tab, you'll find references to FF via "Early-Purchase Bonus Tetra Master Starter Pack" and "Pre-Order Bonus Thief's Knives."
Other major reveals include the equally hyped Red Dead Redemption PC port that's never seen the light of day. Code crackers think they've spotted the rumoured The Last of Us Part II PC port, the long-awaited BioShock 4, and Hydra possibly being a codename for Monolith's Wonder Woman.
We'll also take all the Elder Scrolls we can, thanks to nods to Oblivion and Morrowind. Finally, we're more than pumped for a potential Turok title. Whether this is some sort of new-gen remake, a simple remaster or a brand-new entry, the dino-mite series has been extinct for too long. Sceptics are already calling out the leak as a fake, but until Epic debunks the whole thing, we'll remain cautiously optimistic.
