Destiny 2 Weapon Crafting Guide
Destiny 2 weapon crafting is one of the most exciting new additions to the game that was bundled in with The Witch Queen expansion and mastering this new feature will help you massively in Destiny 2's latest DLC.
Destiny 2 has always been about guns, whether those are insane technical feats or mechanically sound ways to pick up hordes of enemies. However, getting into the endgame relied on a certain degree of luck when it came to unlocking the best damage types and perks.
However, the new crafting system is hoping to do away with a lot of that, allowing for a more customisable experience. But how does weapon crafting actually work in Destiny 2? Luckily we're here to help aid you through the process of finding your one true weapon love, with our guide on the Destiny 2 weapon crafting system.
- Weapons crafting is one of the reasons we believe now is the time to jump into Destiny 2. Check out some of the other reasons, The Witch Queen should excite old and new players alike.
Destiny 2 Weapon Crafting: What Is Weapons Crafting?
Destiny 2 weapon crafting is a revolutionary new system for this long-running looter shooter. Instead of the constant swapping out of old weapons for slightly better stats or perks, players are now able to hold on to the weapons that they like and upgrade them over time. All thanks to a crafting system named the Relic, which allows players to tweak and adjust the performance of their favourite guns.
This system has a keener focus on the perks and performance of the weapon, above the base power and Light level - which remains managed via Destiny 2 upgrade modules.
- You'll first be introduced to weapons crafting thanks to the Destiny 2 Glaive, which is the brand new weapon type.
Destiny 2 Weapon Crafting: How It Works In The Witch Queen
So with this brand spanking new system, how exactly will you be customising your favourite weapons in Destiny 2? Well, it can all be quite over Destiny-ed at times, throwing at players a tonne of new resources that you must collect and enemies you gotta shoot. For the lowdown on how to earn all the new Destiny 2 weapon crafting materials, check out our primer.
First and foremost, crafting is split into both Shape and Reshape, the former being the initial new build of your weapons, and the latter the rework and tweaking for one you've already customised.
The inclusion of Reshape means you need not worry about learning you've ruined a gun with the wrong build. Of course, it will cost you materials, but the idea here is to experiment with different builds. Additionally, the more you use a weapon, the more abilities and perk traits it unlocks - so not only does it allow you to make your favourite guns better, they will continue to do so the more you use them.
Jumping back to the initial "shaping" however, you'll need to select which weapon you would like to customise. This is only available to weapons that were introduced or included via The Witch Queen expansion. Here you can select a weapon in your inventory, and begin to shape your build, whether you are focusing on range, speed, damage, handling and so on. You will also need materials, which if you're having trouble with this aspect, our guide on Destiny 2 weapon craft materials will help you out.
Let's say you have all the materials you need, then each weapon will have its Enhanced Intrinsic, which is essentially the foundation of the weapons - range, reload, handling, and so on - and then the space for four slots spanning the Haft, Magazine, and two additional traits. Lastly, you have the option to include the Memento Socket, which allows you to apply unique cosmetics and trackers.
Upon filling up each of the slots, selecting and holding the finalise shape option, you will spend all of the resources used to pick them and your new weapons will be deposited in your inventory.
That's all you need to know about the Destiny 2 weapon crafting system, which is sure to be a fan-favourite feature from here on out. If a good story is more of your thing than weapons, then check out our guide on Destiny 2 Savathûn to see what the latest big bad is all about.
