Destiny 2's Onslaught mode is the CoD Zombies we’re missing
As we edge closer to Destiny 2's Into The Light update, which will seemingly whisk us away to far and familiar territories once again, a new game mode has been announced that will see a different type of challenge be pitted before our Guardians.
Coming in April's free update will be Onslaught, as Bungie announced the mode on March 19, which is designed to make Destiny players think outside of their normal parameters, and will serve as a fun, progressive, and challenging team-based game.
But its effects could also be felt by the wider FPS genre...
Destiny 2 getting new wave-based mode: Onslaught
Where Destiny has always been about taking the fight to various factions of enemies, the Into the Light update will flip the script with Onslaught and test out your defensive skills.
The free-to-access game mode will see (a maximum of) teams of three face waves of enemies that will be looking to destroy your defences, kill you, or take over the whole area and shut down the main defensive objective: the ADU.
With up to fifty waves to survive in the Challenger version, the mode aims to really put your metal to the test, mixing your usual aggression with strategy and caution.
Associate Designer Noah Lee has challenged players by saying that he thinks it is "impossible" to solo, but given that Helldivers 2 players are reigniting Let Me Solo Her, there will likely be some lone rangers looking to rig up the perfect defence.

Click to enlargeInstantly, this mode has shades of the Modern Warfare 3 (2011) mode, Survival, which allowed players time between rounds to set up defences as increasingly difficult enemies spawned in to hunt you down. But in the wake of a Zombies-only game calling from fans, maybe Destiny 2's round-based premise has enough to snatch some of the CoD community's imaginations.
The concept has quickly become quite an exciting prospect for Destiny fans and shooter players, leaving Call of Duty Zombies stans rather jealous.
