Fans are concerned as Minecraft movie wraps filming
The idea of video games coming to the wider entertainment world has always been a great thing for the medium, even if its actual output hasn't always been impressive. Still, there seems to be no end to which weird and wonderful IPs will get a movie or TV series next.
Mario is a remarkable example of the ebbs and flows of the movie step-up for video games. It started with one of the worst movies to hit theatres in its first adaptation before finding a new era for itself with the recent animated do-over that earned over a billion dollars at the box office.
The next step is a curious one, as we know a live-action movie based on Minecraft is on the way. The addition of Jason Momoa and Jack Black has added even more confusion and concern, but it doesn't seem to matter anymore. Jared Hess' Minecraft movie has just finished filming.
The Minecraft movie has wrapped filming
We didn't think it'd ever happen, but we're here. After a few weeks of leaked images sharing how trees in the movie look, Jason Momoa has revealed that filming on the Minecraft movie has already come to an end.
The Aquaman star made the announcement with a post alongside Jack Black and the rest of the film's crew. "AOTEAROA New Zealand you are magical," he says in the tribute. "Mahalo for letting me film here."
It's great news that we're a step closer to seeing the film we don't entirely understand just yet. The idea of a Minecraft movie is definitely an interesting one during this resurgence of video game adaptations. Still, fans are concerned that its turnaround is a little too tight.
Minecraft fans are worried about the movie's turnaround
Gamers admit that while they're excited to see what happens in the Minecraft movie, they're worried that the filing schedule was pretty short. One sceptic wrote, "Already? Oh my," while another added, "They're about a decade too late with this movie."
Even though there are already naysayers, someone else pointed out that another much-respected video game movie had a similar turnaround and became a box office smash. "For those saying how quick it was, the Five Nights at Freddy's movie finished filming in one month and it became a box office success."
We could be in for another Five Nights at Freddys-style banger with the launch of the Minecraft movie, so we should probably wait to see the first snippets so we can gauge our interest in what might be human Jason Momoa playing himself being transported into a Minecraft world. To be fair, we've seen stranger video game movies. We're looking at you, Pixels.
