You get a live-action adaptation, you get a live-action adaptation, everyone gets a live-action adaptation. It seems that any video game franchise worth its salt is getting turned into a live-action movie or TV series, with Twisted Metal, The Last of Us, Halo, Five Nights at Freddy's, and Knuckles, to name just a few.

The above proves there's been a recent boom in live-action video game adaptations, especially with Amazon's Fallout hitting the headlines. While many feared Fallout's world was simply too big to adapt, the eight-episode series debuted to rave reviews and proved its critics wrong - with word of Season 2 already doing the rounds.

Fallout fans pitch their next big video game adaptation

Over on the Gaming Reddit, gaming fanatics are pitching their own ideal adaptation. The OP suggested XCOM, which is one we'll admit we haven't seen suggested before. There were ludicrous ideas ranging from Untitled Goose Game to a Half-Life movie directed by Christopher Nolan.

There was no shortage of ideas, with fans suggesting Diablo, Dishonored, and Gears of War. Speaking about the latter, one fan cheered, "GoW is shooting fish in a barrel! It's mad that it hasn't been adapted." A Mass Effect series also came up a lot, which we've already heard mentioned in a post-Fallout world.

Someone championed a BioShock movie, which Netflix is supposedly working on, while another added, "We just need a good Warhammer show/movie." Thankfully, Henry Cavill is making it happen. Throwing shade, someone asked for Halo, and someone concluded, "Yeah, it would be nice. So far we only have Paramount's parody show."

Bethesda turns its back on an Elder Scrolls series

Sadly, one franchise we likely won't be seeing make the leap is The Elder Scrolls. As Bethesda's other tentpole series, it would be easy to imagine Amazon wanting to fast-track a series based on the fantasy epic. For those concerned that Fallout was too big, it seems that Tamriel really is too big to bring to the screen.

Bethesda boss Todd Howard has downplayed the idea of an adaptation, admitting, "I'll probably say no," to an Elder Scrolls series. With Howard's never-say-never attitude, there's still a glimmer of hope, but you'll likely be playing Fallout 5 before that happens.

Still, Fallout's success has likely lit a fire beneath studios (for better or worse). Amazon is still working on its proposed God of War series, and if it's anything like Fallout, the streaming giant could become the go-to studio for live-action video game adaptations.
