The Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 story lead mentioned on a podcast that their favourite Easter eggs have not been found yet.

They also commented on how Easter eggs make their way into the games.

There are still hidden Easter eggs in some CDPR games

In a recent podcast episode alongside several other developers, CDPR narrative lead Marcin Blacha was asked about how the studio approaches Easter eggs.

Blacha was asked by Game director Sebastian Kalemba, who is currently working on The Witcher 4, how Easter eggs come into the development process.

In response, Blacha said: “If we're talking about Easter eggs and all those tiny, funny things in the game, the thing is that you cannot really plan it. It's not like we have a list of Easter eggs and we make them.

“Let's say you're making a game and it's, like, the fourth year. You are really tired and then you have this idea and you cannot stop yourself from making it. That's how Easter eggs in our games start. Sometimes this idea is so good that some other people join you and something spectacular emerges.

"To be honest, my favourite of those tiny little funny things, those Easter eggs, are still a secret.

“As far as I know, they are not discovered yet. They're really, really tough to discover, so I won't talk about them."

Perhaps frustratingly, Blacha does not state whether he is talking about The Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk 2077, both of which are games that he has worked on.

The idea that there are still hidden things in The Witcher 3 eight and a half years after it came out may seem surprising, but given the scope of the game it wouldn’t be entirely shocking if players have missed something small.

Blacha said Easter eggs can be a way to connect with the player

One point that was raised during the podcast was that Easter eggs can sometimes hinder a game more than help it.

Co-story director Tomasz Marchewka stated that he thinks Easter eggs can ruin immersion and become overwhelming at times.

In response, Balcha defended the decision to add secrets into the game, saying: "It's a way for the developers to directly connect with the player, and not through the game, through the story in our case, but by something more personal.

"Let's say I like Doctor Who and I make a Doctor Who Easter egg in the game. It is something from my heart to the players. Some of them won't like it, that's obvious, but some of them will, and that's like a personal connection."
