Warner Bros. attempting to fix Mortal Kombat 1 Halloween backlash with two additional Fatalities
Warner Bros. is attempting to rectify the disappointment that players who purchased the controversial Halloween fatality are facing by offering two “free” fatalities.
The original fatality, which was priced at just less than £8, caused upset from players for its “freemium” pricing.
Players were disappointed in Mortal Kombat 1’s Halloween fatality
When Mortal Kombat 1 released its Halloween fatality this year, many players were surprised and disappointed that real money was required to obtain it.
The fatality was priced at 1200 Dragon Krystals, where 1250 Krystals can be purchased for about £8.
Considering the high price of the game, players reacted negatively to the idea that they would have to pay more for additional content.
“Oh damn. This is real? I seriously thought it was a joke. Like some meme. Because the store is already silly. I paid €100 for a freemium game?” wrote one upset player on Reddit.
Another wrote: “What's next for MK2, 1 fatality for each character included in the base game and the others are sold at a premium separately? The monetization of the franchise key element is a slippery slope.”
Warner Bros. are offering two free Fatalities to disappointed players
In response to the backlash, Warner Bros. has offered players who purchased the Halloween fatality two additional skins.
In a Tweet, Warner Bros. said: “Next week, you can access the Seasonal Fatalities bundle, which includes the Halloween, Thanksgiving, and upcoming Winter fatality.
“Those who purchased the Halloween fatality will have access to the bundle at no extra cost.
“We appreciate your feedback on all everything #MK1”
The pack of three fatalities, all themed around the recent and upcoming holidays, however a price tag for players who did not purchase the Halloween fatality has not been attached to the bundle at this stage.
Players are not happy with this compromise from Warner Bros.
While some players have accepted the additional fatalities as Warner Bros. listening to the criticism levied against them, others are still unhappy.
“This still isn’t good enough,” said one Twitter user. “These should be free like in all previous games. Also $10 for each classic skin? We need to keep pushing back.”
Another said: “Even for 3 fatalities, $12 is too much. I guess it’s progress.”
“Stop scamming us,” said a third user. “You give your players no chance of earning crystals. We’ve already paid well over $80 for the base game. This is a quick way to get your players to start boycotting.”
Until a price is announced, it is unlikely we will see the final response to this decision, however if the bundle comes in at more than the original £8 price tag, several players may be more inclined to be upset based on the general reaction on social media.
