Mortal Kombat 1 players discover hack for free skins
It was to be expected that Mortal Kombat 1 would enter the ring of paid cosmetics. After all, if everyone else is doing it, from the battle royale giants to even the minor fighting titles, it would seem a little strange if NetherRealm didn't.
It's a nifty way for developers to earn some more money, no matter how generally frowned upon it is. But it looks like Mortal Kombat 1 hasn't kept its monetisation locked down, as some players have found a way to bag some paid skins for absolutely nothing.
Mortal Kombat 1 trick gives players free skins
A new free skin trick has been unearthed by Mortal Kombat fans, and for some reason, it's gifting them skins they'd usually have to shell out money for.
Before Mortal Komabt 1 launched, it seems that skins were available for purchase using in-game currencies rather than players needing to drop actual money on them, and as such, players have literally turned back the clock on the game to bring the option back.
First flagged on Twitter by iScream, you can turn back your console's date to before November 6. Doing this should find the MK1 shop peppered with unlockables that can be claimed without actual payouts. When switching the dates back, you'll get to keep the same skins.
How long with MK1's skin hack last?
Truthfully, it won't last long. We only have proof of this trick working with the first season, so it's likely as a result of the currency system being adjusted for testing. There's a good chance that NetherRealm is going to catch on and seal up the gap that allowed the hack to happen.
If you've got these Mortal Kombat 1 skins for free, clutch them tight - because there's a chance you won't get to keep them. It's a rare win that we actually get something for free, and with this, we feel more devious than Homelander himself.
