The Witcher fans cast doubt on Season 5, as Netflix announces final season
With everything going on in The Witcher's video game world, it's sometimes easy to forget about its live-action adaptation. While Netflix's The Witcher was once lauded as a great video game adaptation, its fall from grace has been tragic - being replaced by the likes of HBO's The Last of Us and Amazon's Fallout.
First landing on Netflix in 2019, Season 1 of The Witcher adapted Andrzej Sapkowski's The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny novels with Henry Cavill taking up the lead as Geralt of Rivia. Unfortunately, rumbles of creative differences between Cavill and the writers were the least of the series' worries.
The Witcher is coming to an end with Season 5
The Witcher was rocked to its core when Cavill announced he was leaving back in 2022, while rumours that the writers 'hated' the source material did nothing to help the drama. Cavill was originally poised to round out the story with seven seasons, and despite Geralt being recast with Liam Hemsworth, the saga is ending early.
The official account for the series has announced that Season 4 is officially in production, showing off the likes of Anya Chalotra, Frey Allan, and Hemsworth during a table read. This comes with news that Season 5 is also on the way, but also that this will be the show's last.
We'd already heard about Hemsworth being locked in for Season 4 and 5, although some remain unconvinced that we'll get that far. The shadow of Cavill still looms large over The Witcher, with Netflix itself struggling to let him go. Even as The Witcher braces for Season 5, fans have cast doubt over it.

We haven't even reached The Witcher Season 4 yet, and legions of viewers are vowing to boycott. The show's critical and commercial success has been on the decline, and that was with Cavill as Geralt. Although many are likely to tune into Season 4's episode to see what Hemsworth is like as Geralt, they might not stick around.
Responding to the announcement, one critic said, "I don't know anyone that wants this show without Henry Cavill." Another added, "Oh so we are just “pretending” that its still hype? Gotcha," and a third said, "Fans aren’t going to come back. The viewership from last season wasn’t good even with Henry there."
Even if you won't be tuning in, Netflix seems determined to round off the story of The Witcher with Season 5. Now that Season 4 is finally marching forward, only time will tell whether The Witcher will limp to its final season or be put out of its misery.
