Overwatch 2 D.Va Guide: Abilities
The Korean gamer has all manner of special abilities she offers on the battlefield and is one of the most agile tanks in Overwatch 2 because of one of them. Here's a breakdown of what she has to offer.
Fusion Cannons
- Primary Fire - Similar to Tracer and Sombra, D.Va operates a short-range weapon that can significantly damage those close to her. Aim for the head while using these guns to get maximum damage. You can also use the Fusion Cannons while flying in the air.
Light Gun and Call Mech
- Primary Fire - When D.Va escapes from the pod, she'll be left with a light gun. It doesn't do that much damage, but with every hit you make with the pistol, your ultimate recharge rate goes up, thus allowing D.Va to call her mech faster.
Self-Destruct
- Type: Ability
- Effect: D.Va's Self-Destruct ability is one of the most deadly ultimates in the game. The gamer will eject from her mech, letting it explode in place. It hits a large perimeter and it can be hard to avoid if you time the attack well. You can place the self-destruct bomb where you stand or you can throw it like Angry Birds while using your boosters.
Boosters
- Type: Ability
- Effect: D.Va can fly in any direction that the player is facing. Weapons like the Micro Missiles can be used while flying, letting you cause a ruckus on the enemy's front.
Defense Matrix
- Type: Ability
- Effect: Similar to Reinhardt, D.Va can use a holographic shield that blocks projectiles directly in front of D.Va. It only lasts for a limited time, however.
Micro Missiles
- Type: Ability
- Effect: D.Va unleashes a barrage of micro missiles in front of her. They cause a lot of damage and can slightly blind an enemy that takes the full brunt.
D.Va's abilities in Overwatch have been left unchanged for the sequel. However, something to keep in mind is that she does have more health, so you can be a little more aggressive than her prior iteration.

Overwatch 2 D.Va Guide: Early Tips
D.Va is one of the most aggressive tanks in the game. Her flying potential is an absolute asset for any team, as she can swoop in and hunt those hurting in the back of the enemy side. Use her blasters as much as you can whenever you see an enemy with low health. Whenever you're in a pickle due to these situations, save the Defense Matrix for this very reason.
One thing you may not know about D.Va is that she can push enemies off into the abyss. With the charge of her blasters, she can barge through enemies and make them fall off the edge. This is what makes her a great asset whenever you want to separate a group of enemies together.
Be sure to use the missiles sparingly. If you see an opponent that's of flying distance that is low, fly to them and use the missiles as a sneak attack. You can also fire the regular Fusion Cannons in the same circumstance too. Make sure you're chasing the opponents that are weak and getting a kill from them.
While aiming D.Va's ultimate, the Self-Destruct, make sure you're going to hit multiple people and tip the mech up 45 degrees. Once you think you've aimed a sweet spot, thrust forwards and then activate the super. You'll revert to D.Va's mechless self so be careful during this process. Once the mech has exploded and taken out hopefully two or five enemies at once, you can summon a new mech straight away. Her family must be rich or something.
