Where can you get Mandrakes in Hogwarts Legacy?
Fully-grown Mandrakes can be bought from various vendors in the outlying hamlets of Hogwarts. The easiest place to get a Mandrake is from the Dogweed and Deathcap shop in Hogsmeade. The shop is just on the outskirts of the Hogsmeade map, marked by a mushroom icon.
There, you can buy a one-use Mandrake. Whilst this is enough to complete an assignment, it is much more cost-effective in the long run to grow your own Mandrakes. This will ensure you have a constant source of them for future quests.
Alternatively, you can buy Mandrake seeds from Dogweed and Deathcap instead. Once you have bought seeds you can plant a Mandrake and grow them an unlimited number of times.
- Travel to Hogsmeade is easier by broom. Check out our guide on how to get a broomstick in Hogwarts Legacy for more information.
How to use Mandrakes in Hogwarts Legacy
Whilst traditionally used in potions like the cure of petrified wizards in Hogwarts Legacy, Mandrakes are used as effective combat tools. Mandrakes can be equipped on your potions wheel and used in battle to stun enemies with the Mandrake's cries.
If on PS5 use R1 in combat to summon the wheel and drag it to the Mandrake symbol, then release it and press R1 once to summon the Mandrake.
You will need to gather and test the Mandrakes in battle during Professor Garlick's assignments if you want to unlock additional spells.
How to grow Mandrakes in Hogwarts Legacy
Mandrakes require a small Herbology planter to grow in. You can unlock a planter by attending your first Herbology class which will unlock after you have completed the main quest 'Secrets of the Restricted Section'.
After you have attended Herbology you can return to the Greenhouses via the Library Annex at any time to use the small planter. Once you have Mandrake seeds you can plant them numerous times.
If you have unlocked the Room of Requirement, you can grow multiple Mandrakes at once.
The Room of Requirement will become a quest after you have completed the main quest 'Jackdaw's Rest'. Professor Weasley will contact you to meet her, which will trigger the quest and unlock the room for use.
Once you have the room unlocked, you can use Moonstone to conjure Herbology tables in the room. This will become your private sanctuary where you can stockpile potion ingredients in your spare time.
You can further increase your yield of Mandrakes by unlocking larger planters.
To get the recipe for more Herbology tables, you must visit Tome and Scrolls in Hogsmeade. Here the vendor sells a multitude of recipes for use in The Room of Requirement. This includes larger Potion Stations, Hopping Pots, Herbology tables, Beast Feeders, decoration items, and more.
